Indrani

Indrani gives perspective on why she and Markus are such a good pair, yet butt heads.

Jun 21, 20100

Welcome to my world of passionate image making. You may not know me yet, but you probably know my visions—images that began in my head (and the heads of Markus and GK) which now live on in yours. I’m talking about definitive photographs of Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Kate Winslet, Britney Spears, David Bowie, and many others that we have created.

For 20 years, I’ve analyzed, art directed, and embodied imaging arts and fashion, first as a model, then a cultural anthropologist at Princeton, now as a fashion photographer and digital artist. With my creative partner Markus and stylist GK Reid, I’ve photographed many of the most influential artists of our time, worked closely with superstars of marketing, public relations, digital image manipulation, make-up, hair and styling. And I’ve studied with spiritual teachers around the world for my own development and self-realization.

But it’s only recently that I’ve personally experienced the power of image, after hanging out with Lindsay Lohan. I made a few comments about Lindsay’s intelligence, beauty and potential, and my hope to be a positive influence in her life. Suddenly I was the planet’s third-most Googled person, with reports everywhere that we’re settling down together after a year-long relationship! It didn’t help that Markus, usually protective of our celebrities, couldn’t contain his juicy soundbites about a racy shoot we did together. My actual words and Lindsay’s were ignored in favor of our photos and the fantasies people prefer to project.

Now to set the record straight, I don’t see myself as a cougar, I’m more a tiger lover. No, not that Tiger! My spirit animal is the tiger—My goddess rides one, it was my college mascot, and I’ve trekked for weeks through Indian jungles to photograph one.

Just started watching your show in Australia, and like most of your other fans am a photographer. Usually I avoid the USAs obsession with reality shows (its very strange to the rest of the world) But your show not only amuses me (in a good way) its very inspirational. Giving me that feeling of wanting to pick my camera up straight away. You are a lovely woman and have great style and manner. I hope your journey in real life is a wonderful one.

Indrani, I never write on these blogs, but I was really taken by you. I wanted to comment on your last blog but for some reason the comment section is unavailable. I commend you for your talent as a photographer, eloquence as a writer, and beauty on the outside but most importantly of the soul as well. I wish you the best in everything that you do and send you love and energy so that you continue your good works and passions.

Hi Indrani, you're beauty comes through inside and out and I don't think you and Markus are buttheads hahaha. Being a photographer myself, I enjoy the show so much. I love watching the collaborative, creative process that goes on between you two. Don't worry about the editing, you're both perceived in a very favorable light. I hope there are many more episodes to come. Thank you for sharing your journey.

Hi Indrani:

Your show is a gem. I so much want it to return for another season. Despite everything, the chemistry between you and Markus works well to produce your art. Don't know how you keep your cool w/ him. It is clear that he has a genuine affection for you. Just wish he was more mature - it would make things easier for both of you. Don't think Markus knows how lucky he is to be able to collaborate w/ someone like you especially w/your visual style. It makes a profound difference. Keep your balance and maintain yourself. Hope to see you next season. The show is a winner and w/o you it wouldn't be as great. More - please!

Loved seeing your breathtaking home in India Indrani! You are such an extraordinary person with so much compassion and much more patience than I myself possess. Everything you do and are is beautiful and anyone who knows you is blessed to be around such a sweet lovely spirit. I know you love unconditionally, but please don't sacrifice your life for someone who doesn't appreciate who you are every moment. GK is so gentle and sweet with you it brought tears to my eyes that someone finally yelled back at Marcus on your behalf when he told you both to shut up. You need to keep him close, and use that as an example of real love and effection instead of Marcus' attempts of holding everything together only when he knows he is close to losing you. He admits in his episodes that he doesn't feel wrong about his behavior and only does things for you because he feels he has no choice. Like seeing India with all of its history and acting like a Diva the entire trip??? You are lovely, please love this man from further away so you can experience the happiness you deserve. You are just as talented as he is and so often not aknowledged at all for the pictures you and Marcus created together and I don't believe for a second he would have been this successful without you. xxoo

I have enjoyed your show, it is great. I loved seeing everything it had to offer, but Indrani...Markus is a bit much. He is entertaining as can be, but I can not imagine that he enhances your life, it looks like he takes you down. I understand that what he offers by means of his creative side has been a life learning experience for you, but by now, he is mainly self-centered and self-absorbed. YOU on the other hand, you ARE AMAZING...

Hope Bravo continues with Double Exposure episodes, as it's riveting watching high fashion photography behind the scenes hosted by such interesting characters. Indrani, you truly are a beautiful person inside and out, and please don't lose all your shyness - it's part of your charm. The episode in India was touching and your efforts in building the school there along with your father is so admirable. Even though Marcus has his moments where I want to shake him, he seems a nice enough guy and its obvious you care about each other. Keep shooting and hopefully we'll be able to keep watching.

Indrani,

What a treat to see your beautiful home in India. You must wish for it to be as it used to be hundreds of years ago. I am shocked that as an artist Markus could not see all of the beauty right there in front of his eyes. You let him get away with too much!! Go out on your own. I worry that he is stifling your lovely and gentle personality with his intensity!

On another note, I adore you!! You are beautiful, smart, talented, dedicated, and hardworking. I am a huge fan and cannot wait to see next season!

Good luck to you =)

Really liked your season finale. You have quite an interesting background. It must be amazing to have grown up in India in such a regal style.

Indrani you are a busy lady. All of your endeavors are undertaken with a lot of energy; you're a person to look up to. But I'll say what I said to Markus, more blogs! More blogs!

Great show!
Great show!

I love you guys. Yes, that Markus is a pill sometimes, but you do a pretty good job standing up to him and calling him on his stuff. And for working in high stress situations you always have a calm approach. I loved you flirting with that one male model. So cute.

Hi Indrani...I just saw the episode when you all went to India and I was soooo amused by Markus's reaction to his environment..it was a full blown PANIC ATTACK!!! And I figured he was a "man of the world" I literally was about to pee my pants laughing..I would have never expected that reaction from him!!!! I loved seeing your birthplace and learning a little about your family history...very interesting...you MUST right a book...I would no doubt buy it!!!!!!!

Indrani, you are such an inspiration to all women. I absolutely love the show, I record it every week so I don't miss an episode. My daughter is 15 and very much into photography and art. You make a really great role model for girls her age, because you don't let anyone walk all over you, you are very passionate about your art and you show that a person can be successful if they work hard and follow their true creativity. I really hope your show comes back for another season and soon. I can't believe this is the last episode. Bravo needs to give you guys more air time. I can tell Markus would really be lost without you, and even though he loves to argue with you and tries to keep himself as the "all knowing" boss, he really loves you. You are very intelligent and beautiful and I hope my daughter will be as talented and graceful and you are. Take care, God Bless you and may you have love, peace and happiness, always.

Dump that partner of yours. He 's a huge liability. The second he had the nerve to shoot his girlfriend in between shooting Ms. Decker, compromising an important session, I would have cut my ties right then & there. Markus may be a very nice person, but he's a nightmare to collaborate with.

Love watching the show and the shoots. But the arguing in front of the clients seems unsettling watching and also for the clients. Didn't know if that was amped up for the show or it that is real life. Discussing the lighting and posing is great but man seems almost unprofessional to do that in the setting of the actual shoot. Keep pushing for your ideas!

Where have you been, Indrani? You get us addicted to your show and then you don't blog? Why not? Come on, use your degree from Princeton and write something. As the episodes tick on, you have become much more endearing. I want to hear more!

I've just seen your show for the first time today (the episode with N.Campbell and Lady Gaga).

I was bowled away by your obvious genius bursting forth while you are engaged in the "process" of your art. Wow! Your perceptions are rapid fire; it seem like you're absolutely inspired. I can understand how trying to translate/express such a wealth of information that is in your own mind, to someone else, your working partner, could be very frustrating. No matter WHO your partner may be! I wonder if Art truly is a journey of the individual, at its essence...or if it can be a shared work, and still retain the integrity of its true voice and vision. These are difficult questions, with no easy answers.

Thanks for being an empowering inspiration to women! :)

Love the show. Wish that it was on earlier on the East Coast. As a photographer, I enjoy the glimpses into your set-ups and shoots. I we get a chance to see you do some post-processing.

Right now I don't think people appreciate how unfair it is that Markus goes to dinner & you still have to finish the job!

Indrani we have all seen couples like you before: the control freak and the nice girl. There is nothing original about that. With today's cameras I would hardly call what you do art. Don't be a coward. Strike out on your own.

Love, love the show. The insight into the process is so interesting, and the personalities & willingness to show true emotion and challenges keeps it real & viewers hooked. The very Best of Bravo. It should be promoted more, & episodes shown more repeatedly like other Bravo hits. Would like to see more press on Indrani & Markus themselves - interviews, photos, etc. America (& the world) should not be denied the wonderful gift of falling in love with these artists due to lack of exposure.

Ready for the books by all the cast-biographies, & "How To's" - from style & makeup instruction, posing instruction, technical/photographing/editing instruction - all for the lay person who wants to improve and better express themselves creatively in these areas for their personal fulfillment. Fashion line, product line possibilities. Would like to see press on Indrani & GK's "favorite things"-clothing, cosmetics, etc., & why.

The sky is the limit for everyone on this show. The catch will be the artists (Indrani & Markus) staying true to teaching & showing others creativity vs. becoming "celebrities as a profession." May you never lose your genuiness for it's your greatest gift. Can't wait to see the positive karma you project come full circle and reward you in ways never imagined.

Ummmmmmm. OK. Got it. You went to Princeton. Is that what an ivy league degree does for someone...get you in a personal and business relationship with an ego maniac and has you name dropping "Lyndsay Lohan" as if it will empower and help you? That's NOT very smart, but I guess it gets you googled, as you say.

Midwest Chick

I see that Lindsay is Twittering all over the place about how you set her up. Actions speak louder than words (or tweets) and in watching your show one is struck by your professionalism and dedication to the truth of your art. Unfortunately, Ms. Lohan sppears to dedicate her life to ruining her own reputation. The entire world is lying except her. Yeah, right. I don't think you have to worry much about how you will be perceived.

You and Markus come across as a passionate yet compassionate couple to the television viewer. You have given us a glimpse of what we do not normally see. Watching the dynamic between you both is fascinating. As a woman, I understand how you feel "that ship has sailed" but hearing Markus' voice change to a tone of pure love when he brought you dinner of "your favorite things" was very touching. There is nothing wrong with being best friends. Your friendship creates beautiful photographs and that, as they say, ain't nothin'!

I watch and seek out with great curiosity about Double Exposure. I am a photographer in Chicago and think it is an amazing treat to be a "fly on the wall" watching you two in action.

It is making me re-think how I'm going to handle a shoot I've got coming up, to push the image and fashion a little further. Personally, I'd love to work for you guys for a little while.

Oops! Meant to say "perspective" in my previous comment. ;-D By the way, I think Markus is a riot (laughing... I know someone exactly like him). I think he is just headstrong and I highly doubt you could EVER change that. BUT at the same time, he definitely has a caring soul and GENTLE nature to him. But he certainly needs to listen more (haha, like that'll ever happen). He just likes to disagree to disagree, probably. Indrani, I can't wait for your BOOK to come out and read it! Is it out yet in the US? By the way, you opening a school in India has inspired me to think of doing the same. What you put out is what Karma will give back. You're blessed. Especially when I read in your words how non-judgemental you are towards people and more compassionate. I also love reading in an article about you when you went to Princeton University and majored in Anthropology, that you went to school, not really to get a job in the real world (frankly, I would agree from my own experience), but more so for the educational, learning part of it. That explains the worldy aspect of you and how you've accomplished so much. You just have a genuine interest in everything you do and in people around the world.

They keep refusing to post my thoughts which in no way are out of line, you are just as talented as Markus and I agree 100% with the previos poster named AVID that he needs to be kinder toward you, but disagree that this treatment is loving.

I've been reading up on you and you are sooo inspirational. I love everything you write or say. You express "love and compassion" through everything you say and do and it acts as a reminder for someone fearful like me in a crazy, MADDENING world like this, to keep things in prospective! You really are very calming, despite all the bickering you have on the show with that HEADSTRONG partner of yours, Markus (how many of us know men like that who actually compliment us). :) You are an artist and inspire many women like me who are consumed with pressures of this idealistic society, within particular cultures, to break the mold! I use to be ashamed of being such a free-spirit (born that way and tried everything to stop it... failingly) because EVERYONE would criticze me for it and I would feel tremendous guilt. But just reading about all the wonderful things you did in your life and continue to do and how you have done things OUT OF THE BOX makes me feel much better about myself and inspires me to be stronger in all the routes I choose to take. Thank you.

Really enjoy the show. Nice to see the nehind the scenes work and creativity that goes into the images we see. I think you are a beautiful woman, and you seem so kind and smart. I cringe watching the ways Markus treats you at times. It is obvious he is moddy and tempermental, and yet I can see he has a true love for you, beit platonic or otherwise. I hope he is able to watch the episodes and see that his treatment of you is not warranted, and that he should value you and treasure you more as his creative partner, a friend and as a human. I do not think Markus is mean but he does need to examine how he treats you. It is obvious he thinks he is the stronger partner in the duo and that he could get by without you. I am not so sure that is true, though. It appears you are the work horse and are just as talented, knoweldgable and creative as him. Plus, your relationship with your subjects seems much more professional and productive.

Indrani, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE you and Markus together!! Your friendship/relationship is so sweet to watch, even when you fight because even in those heated moments the love you have for each other shows....You two have also inspired me to pick up a camera again. You are one of the most beautiful and talented women of our time. Your charm and open heart make you that much more beautiful. The talent you possess is equal to or exceeds Markus. What I see is that be holds you back and is absolutely codependent on your being there and does not even give you the credit for your own ideas and insists on making them his.

Personally I had a friendship with a man that looks, acts, and even has the high pitched whine when he's throwing his fits. It was unhealthy and hope you can break away from the heavy shadow he is hoping you will stay beneath. He should at the very least let you book some of your own shoots without feeling threatened. I worry when I have watched your show honey. You are an angel and hope they post this since they did not post another short one I sent on your managers blog. Bravo should allow people to see things as we do and have this opportunity to express our thoughts even though I am not a Markus fan because of the way he treats you. Not many women would put up with it long.

Love you and will continue to watch you even though I cringe for you each week having to try to keep him from offending everyone around him which is immaturity that will never change. Stay safe and remember your roots and what a lovely woman you are inside and out!

Indrani, Hello, what a nice treat getting to know you on Bravo. May i say you are a beautiful beautiful young woman. You are blessed with a fabulous figure and a truly exception fashion style. Which i enjoy. I love fashion and really respect seeing a young woman with style and a sence of fashion flair.
