Lauren Cohan Reveals She Almost Quit 'The Walking Dead'

A pivotal scene in Season 3 had the actress ready to walk away.

For Walking Dead fans, one of the most crucial scenes occurs in Season 3 when Maggie must deliver Lori's baby via C-section, knowing the procedure will likely kill her. This powerful scene is also the moment when actress Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, almost quit the show.

Cohan, in an interview with James Lipton on Inside the Actors Studio, says after reading the script for the "Killer Within" episode she immediately went to co-star Steven Yeun's (Glenn) apartment. "I knock on Steven's door, and I said, 'I have to leave the show, I don't think I can do it.' It affects you so deeply to the core."

Cohan says her strong initial reaction to the material is what also made her want to go through with the scene. "I realized, that's why I have to do it...We watch to feel and to--hopefully--honestly portray something."

She said doing the scene helped her to break down her own barriers as an actress. "Bad stuff happens, and what's the point in not getting real about it?"

Below, you can watch the emotional scene Cohan is referencing.

Watch the entire cast of The Walking Dead on Inside the Actors Studio on Feb 9 at 8/7c.
