Don't Bungle the Jungle

"Walking on the wild side immediately evoked two distinct emotions from the designers - SHOCK and TICK-TOCK!"

Dec 16, 2009

Snakes, tarantulas, monkeys, llamas - oh my!!!

This week's challenge of incorporating a live animal inspiration into the design of a single garment was fabulous! This week's execution by most of the designer's was less than.

As I blogged about last week, inspiration is found in life - so what better of it's principle elements than nature? Walking on the wild side immediately evoked two distinct emotions from the designers - SHOCK and TICK-TOCK! With only one day to create a look combined with the challenge of having to incorporate their "new friend" into the garment you could see and feel their stress and panic! Hence, the lack of creativity, clear thinking and vision in the end result. Kathy said something in her interview that disappointed me though, and I know it was just the pressure she was feeling talking. "I'm not going to take risks, be theatrical" - thankfully she did not listen to herself and instead followed an internal compass and DID take a chance. By incorporating the zebra fabric in her jumpsuit after Dan and Dean reminded all of the designers not to take the challenges as "literally" WAS taking a risk. Her garment was chic, sleek, cohesive to her brand - a winner.

I thought that I finally found a good fashion reality show to watch and now that you have gotten rid of Kevin I can see that your show is just as cheesy at the other fashion reality show that switched over to the network lifetime tv. The outfit that he created was beautiful it wasn't cohesive but it looked better than the two designers you keep on the show.

I'm glued to my seat watching each show. Marilyn Crawford's designs stand out! They are beautiful. I'm ready to purchase all three designs!! What's going on with the challenge winners? Why is her talent being overlooked? She should have won the challenge on Episode 1...and definitely Episode 3! You all need to tell us more about what goes into the decision. Marilyn Crawford has won each challenge..each week! Love her!

I was thrilled to see a fashion forward reality show hit the networks. I decided to become a loyal viewer. But right from the start I was disapointed by the end of the first show. I truly could not figure out why L. Marilyn did not win that challenge. To top it off the winner, did not deserve to win. Though her design was adequate it did not speak of any true creativity, it was basic and safe. If any other garment was worthy it would have been the yellow gown. The second show left me feeling well kind of, I guess the judges see something the viewers don't see. Doubt it...The third show not even close.

How is it that for the third episode in a row Marilyn got shafted??? How many times is she going to be on top and not win? This reminds me of Rico on "The Fashion Show".

I love launch my line! I'm onl yten years old but I really want to be a fashion designer. I was really happy that Kathy won because even though the belt was literall the entire garment wasn;t that fabric so I was really relieved by that. Kevin's design was okay. It didn't exactly speak to me. It didn't look like a llama at all infact. But the top was very stylish. I understand why he didn't make it.

Is anyone else tired of L. Marilyn not getting her due?

I am shocked at Merle's win given the look of the dress has been done for the Golden Globes...like in the late 90s... Her multi-faceted ideas are always great, but c'mon!

The runner up was simply a work of draping that you would find in a Halston design or anything in the 70s. Although the 70s versions would fit better (I didn't "buy" the explanation of the excess material)...

Louanna is a STYLIST!!! SHE KNOWS DESIGNERS AND THEIR DESIGNS... Louanna, again with the copying....can you say Ralph Lauren/Calvin Klein with your day look?

NOW, L. Marilyn's look took the task seriously and gave a different perspective. It was gorgeous AND DIFFERENT!!! I rarely get to say that a design, in general, is different! L. Marilyn was actually thinking. You get the sense that LM is thinking of her designs from scratch where the others are limited to what they've already seen in fashion.

I want to know what the audience is saying each week, because L. Marilyn overwhelmingly won the audience week one...and lost... Week two she could have taken it...week 3... could have taken it...what is the deal?!?!?

When is the casting for the next episode?
