Christina Aguilera, is that you?! Those are the exact words that crossed our minds as we came across the star’s latest PAPER magazine cover. For the past several years, we’ve grown accustomed to Aguilera’s fierce execution of retro glam looks. However, it appears that as the singer works on her highly anticipated album, she’s decided to switch up her signature look along with it.
The stunning cover shot that stopped us in our tracks features a close-up of the singer without a bold red lip, a fluttery burlesque-level lash, or a colorful wig in sight. Instead, Aguilera poses headstrong baring her blue eyes and natural freckles with minimal makeup, and a simple gold ring that reads "MOM."
The fresh-faced look comes as a part of the 37-year-old’s latest transformation, which reflects her current state in life. "I've always been someone that obviously loves to experiment, loves theatrics, loves to create a storyline and play a character in a video or through stage," she told PAPER. "I'm a performer, that's who I am by nature. But I'm at the place, even musically, where it's a liberating feeling to be able to strip it all back and appreciate who you are and your raw beauty."
However, as the interview states, this does not mean that Aguilera is completely done with her love of glitz and glam. "I mean, I'm a girl that likes a beat face, let's not get it twisted," she said. Her cover shoot isn’t completely barefaced either. The editorial features the mother of two in a variety of looks including curled baby bangs, Twiggy-esque lashes, and a mod black lip.
