As any Harry Potter fan would know, the boy wizard had a rough time living with his horrid aunt and uncle at 4 Privet Drive, Little Whinging. Poor Harry was forced to live in the cupboard under the stairs in the house in the English county of Surrey before he found his way to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Now the house used as Potter's early home in the movie adaptations of J.K. Rowling's magical books has been put up for sale. And, with three bedrooms, no-one should be stuck living under the stairs. The house is, in fact, located at 12 Picket Post Close in Bracknell, Berkshire, which would put it about an hour from the fictional address.
Local site Get Reading reports that "logistical problems meant the actual house only ever featured in one of the films but the street was recreated in a studio for the later films including the final installments of the series Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows."
Though it's a rather average muggle house, the current owners hope its Potter cachet will cast a spell on prospective buyers and convince them to fork out £475,000 (around $620,000). It last sold for £290,000 in May 2010 (which would have been $420,400 then, prior to the pound's nosedive). That's a bargain compared to real estate values in cities like New York and Los Angeles — just ask the Million Dollar Listing agents!
As well as three bedrooms, it comes with a big family bathroom, a newly laid drive, and a landscaped back garden with a large patio.
"When we first launched the property four days ago, we did not mention the Harry Potter connection, but this morning it's been pretty evident that the world is interested in this property and there is an awful lot of hype," he said.
