Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux Announce They're Separating After Two Years of Marriage

"We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple," the actors said in a statement.

Unfortunate news has come in from a favorite Hollywood couple of many: Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are separating. The couple confirmed the news publicly on Thursday via a statement to Associated Press, saying the decision to part ways came at the end of 2017.

“In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation,” said the statement released by Jennifer's publicist Stephen Huvane. “This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.

“Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly," the statement continued. "Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.”

According to PEOPLE, Jennifer and Justin met in 2008 and started dating three years later.

Their two-year union was the second marriage for Jennifer who divorced Brad Pitt in 2005 after five years of marriage. It was the first marriage for Justin who was previously in a 14-year relationship with Heidi Bivens.
