Andy Cohen Gives the Scoop on His New Book

How the Housewives, Gaga and Warhol have inspired his dishy chronicle, 'The Andy Cohen Diaries.'

What's it like hanging out with Lady Gaga in NYC? How do the Housewives really act on the set of a reunion? And what goes on behind the closed doors of insanely exclusive events like the Oscars?

In his forthcoming book The Andy Cohen Diaries, the Watch What Happens Live host will deliver a day-by-day chronicle of his wild, over-the-top life in New York City.

Before the book hits stores, Andy gave the Dish the inside scoop on what fans can expect, how the writing process is coming along and—pay attention, Aviva Drescher and Carole Radziwill!—whether or not he's hired a ghostwriter.

How's the book coming along?
It's good! It's all about the events of my life in the last year. It's a bold thing to say, but everybody in New York is in this book. It's funny how many interactions I've had with a lot of people over the last year.

So it's kind of like the blog you used to write for, in a way.
Yeah! For anyone who started following me on my blog, this book will be satisfying for them. I tried to write about my life in New York City on that blog. It was fun! And there are a lot of things that happen behind-the-scenes of Watch What Happens Live and the Housewives reunions that I'll write about too. I'm making it as fun and dishy as possible.

Any stand-out moments specifically from WWHL?
I've had guests who have been displeased with something I had just said. I've had guests who've had too much to drink! There is some behind-the-scenes stuff about the Lady Gaga episode. Lady Gaga, weirdly enough—she's in the book a bunch!

You've said Andy Warhol's Diaries were an inspiration. How?
If you look at that book, it's a pop culture time capsule, for the period that his diary covered. And my book is very now. It's about the way we live in 2013 and 2014. Warhol loved New York. He loved celebrity. He loved going out. And I share those three loves with him. I'm fascinated by New York celebrity and going out on the town.

How do you carve out time to write with doing the show and producing Housewives?
I just write everyday. For the first four months, I called my friend Liza every morning. She would take notes for me. Just like Andy Warhol did when he wrote Diaries. And then after four months, she would send me notes of our conversation. But after the first four months, I've had more time to write.

How do you remember your day-to-day events—do you take notes?
I write in the morning. And I can remember stuff from the night before the next day. If there are things that strike me as funny, maybe I'll send myself a little note that says, "Don't forget this."

Any specific stories you can share?
I don't want to give too much away, but there will be stories from the U.S. Open, Fashion Week, Oscar know, I've been everywhere from Miami to Montana to Brazil to behind-the-scenes of reunion shows.

Should any celebs be scared of what you might write about them?
This book is not a mean-spirited book, because I'm not a mean-spirited person. It's fun! Alot of people have asked me if I'd do a reality show, and I think this book is the closest I'll get to doing one. There's one or two people who I think will know what's in there. But from writing my blog for so many years, I have a sense of what I can get away with.

Carole Radziwill and Aviva Drescher might be wondering: have you hired a ghostwriter?
No ghostwriter!
