We bet Betty Crocker never had this problem. "Why would [Caroline] pretend to be upset about something so small and obviously a joke?" The Real Housewives of New Jersey's Teresa Giudice asks after Caroline Manzo failed to find the humor in being called "as Italian as the Olive Garden" in T's most recent cookbook, Fabulicious. "To create bad feelings for me and my book? But why?"
Well, here's one theory. "Maybe because she was mad it's me that got a cookbook and not her?" Teresa writes on her website. "I remember when I was writing my very first book proposal, Caroline was also trying to sell her own cookbook (and 5 other Housewives were too!). Caroline told me I was doing it wrong, that I wasn't smart enough, that I didn't have the right agent, the right co-writer, the right anything. I took her criticism like I always do, with a smile, and did what I wanted to anyway. And my book got picked up. Caroline's didn't. Not one publisher wanted it. I don't know why."
Bringing more heat into the kitchen, Caroline discussed her frenemyship with Teresa to Gayle King. "We were never really friends. She was an acquaintance; she was very good friends with my sister. I think Jacqueline suffered the biggest blow here. We vacationed together. We were in the same crew. We went to dinners a lot, but was there ever a time I would pick up the phone and say, 'What are you doing?' No. So there's no friendship, and I'm not bothered by it."
Watch Teresa and Caroline's flames continue to rise during The Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion this Sunday at 10/9c.
