Here’s the Backstory on Katie Maloney Skipping Scheana Shay’s Wedding

If it wasn’t already clear that Katie Maloney would not be attending Scheana Shay’s wedding, it definitely should be after the March 22 episode of Vanderpump Rules.

In the buildup, Katie had previously expressed that she didn’t want to go because of the role Scheana played in the Tom Schwartz–Raquel Leviss drama, while on the other hand, Scheana was also considering disinviting Katie because of the way she was lashing out at her.

Who made the final decision isn’t exactly clear, but Katie undoubtedly drew a line in the sand on the latest episode when she insisted that she’d still be traveling to Mexico the weekend of Scheana’s wedding and staying at the same resort — even when it meant that, because of a booking issue, one of Scheana’s bridesmaids would have to stay elsewhere.

As Katie explained to Lisa Vanderpump and Ariana Madix, “I spent $1,000 on a hotel room that I cannot get back. Last time I checked, Mexico’s a really big place.”

Plus, she wasn’t going alone. “I’m gonna bring Kristina Kelly with me,” Katie added. “It’s her birthday that week.”

Ariana tried to do some negotiating on Scheana’s behalf by explaining the issue with the resort, but Katie wasn’t budging, saying, “It sucks that Scheana’s bridesmaid didn’t book her room when Scheana was bullying all the rest of us to do it, but these are not my problems. I called the hotel and made sure that Kristina Kelly could be added to my room and they said, ‘No problemo.’”

The drama didn’t end there, though, as Katie and Scheana later came face-to-face at the group’s pool party. “You don’t want to be in Mexico to support Brock and I. If you still want a vacation, have a vacation, I’m not disinviting you from doing that,” Scheana told her. “It’s just, stay at a different resort.”

She added that she didn’t want Katie’s “negative energy” present “on a very special day” in her life, and she even offered to buy the reservation from her, but Katie refused. 

Things only got worse when Schwartz inserted himself into the situation and called Katie “emotionally entitled,” and she eventually stormed out of the party in tears.

On the bright side, Mexico, here they come!
