XSCAPE's LaTocha Scott-Bivens Responds To Sister's Claims She Stole Her Money
Find out what LaTocha Scott-Bivens to say about accusations of stolen money, her solo contract, and her thoughts on XSCAPE's future.
The sisterly-love appears to be on short supply between XSCAPE’s feuding Scott sisters, who continue to play out their family drama amidst the public eye.
LaTocha Scott-Bivens addressed the claims by her sister and bandmate Tamika Scott on the latest episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Tamika accused her sister on SWV& XSCAPE: The Queens of R&B of stealing her XSCAPE royalty checks more than a decade ago.
LaTocha and her husband, Rocky Bivens, have repeatedly denied cashing the royalty checks. LaTocha addressed the ongoing controversy again on WWHL during a rousing round of “Can’t XSCAPE the Truth.”
“So I want to talk about the $30 grand,” Andy probed. “So, if neither yourself or Rocky cashed in the royalty checks, what do you think happened to it?”
“I don’t know, you know, I saw this at the same time you guys did,” she said of Tamika’s recent social media post. “We’re talking about 11, 13 years that she said this happened, but because she said — she posted it and I did see that she posted it. I want to find resolve. That’s my sister at the end of the day, and I don’t want to continue to move forward if we can’t find that.”
Tamika explained her reasoning for publicly airing the drama, as well as what she says she believes happened, on Instagram.
“God knows I didn’t want to do this. This is not about the money you stole from me. Because I forgave you! Sis, you’re continuously sitting on all your interviews Lying & saying I’m looking for a storyline and attention knowing y’all stole my money!! Trying to make people think I’m crazy and that I’ve lost my mind,” she wrote.
On WWHL, Andy asked how LaTocha felt about Tamika posting “all the receipts and everything.”
“Like I said, I have to learn about it at the same time you guys did,” she said. “Didn’t know anything about it.”
LaTocha also addressed the recent accusations Tamika made on her own appearance on WWHL when she accused her sister of stealing a Motown Gospel deal meant for them both.
“The contract that was meant for both of us, that she stole from us,” Tamika said. “She stole from me. That was our deal. And she took it.”
After signing the deal, LaTocha dropped her own solo gospel album this month, which she has said allowed her to return to her gospel roots.
“What did you think about Tamika’s claim that the solo deal you scored was initially meant for both of you and that you took it from her? Andy asked.
“What’s for you is for you. I can’t take anything that belongs to you,” LaTocha replied. “But at the end of the day, when we were thinking about — well, actually talking about doing music, everything went kind of downhill and when you’re talking about inspiration and inspiring people you don’t want to be fightin’ when you’re in the studio about that type of stuff, so I moved forward in my walk.”
LaTocha also claimed she “never” blocked her sister on social media and only changed her phone number because she was “getting crazy phone calls” at the time and needed a new number.
Andy also broached the subject of whether or not the sisters’ mom favors LaTocha, a claim Tamika made in SWV & XSCAPE: The Queens of R&B’s explosive first episode.
“Do you feel that your mom plays favorites when it comes to you and Tamika? Or is she, you know, being dramatic when she says you’re her moms favorite?” he asked.
“Um, you know, she probably feels that way. Well, let me just say this, my sister was very rambunctious coming up. When I tell you, she got in trouble by all of our aunts, she got kicked out of school, that’s where she met Tiny, so she’s always had that thing,” she said. “Any time my mother and I would try to talk to her, it’s like, ‘Tamika, listen, we don’t want you to be looked at in that way, like change it.’ So, it would probably seem to her like we’re one-sided, but no, we never wanted her to be in trouble."
As the drama between the sisters plays out, XSCAPE continues to tour without LaTocha. While that’s just fine by LaTocha, she explained to Andy that she would have preferred if the group used the name XSCAP3, which was how the group referred to themselves in the past when Kandi Burruss was not part of the tour.
“We don’t mind because we’ve done that before, although we changed our name to XSCAP3. You know, I just felt they should have probably respected it in that way because it’s not XSCAPE until it’s all four of us. That’s just how I feel,” she said. “For them, I don’t want them not to make money and do shows, that’s not what it’s about ‘cause I love to do music.”
It also appears that LaTocha is hoping to smooth things over with her group members and rejoin them, referencing the group’s current Wikipedia page that no longer lists her as a member.
“I never left,” she said. “Outside of what you see on Wikipedia, I never left, ok? My name is off but I am still a part of XSCAPE,” she said.
While it remains to be seen whether the sisters will reach some common ground, it doesn’t appear that the drama will be ending anytime soon.
