Season 1
Wim Delvoye is a Belgian artist who once made an automated poop machine called, "Cloaca," so the idea of digestion art isn't entirely far-fetched. Although I'm not sure how a Parkour performance relates to bowel movements… I guess neither did Simon.
I had to ask myself, "Do these artists understand what movement is?" How could they flounder so far from a subject that leaves so much possibility?
I did like Bayete's piece so very much. It evoked childhood memories of the merry-go-round and amusement park rides, and gave a completely fascinating view of the city too.
I also thought the roller coaster piece was intriguing sculpture.
I couldn't help but wonder what in the world the group was thinking to let the woman who has immunity and says she wants to do poop, lead them....
I do find that it seems difficult to gauge what the judges are looking for in each competition--is there some sort of "judging criteria"? One day it seems that literal is okay, the next its not. One day concept is in, the next day it is out. One day, telling the story is all the rage, the next, it falls short. Truly, each challenge must be grueling--timewise, execution-wise, and sheer creative energy-wise.
I'd really love to see more footage of the actual construction processes used by the artists here on the BRAVO website. I know a lot of techniques for a lot of methods, but there are still many that I wonder how they executed as we see so little of that part.
How much interaction do the judges have with the contestants outside of the gallery show and critiques?
