As if we could withstand another crushing blow in the deluge of celebrity breakups we’ve endured this year. Fergie, who announced last month her imminent divorce from Josh Duhamel after eight years of marriage, is revealing that she thought she’d be married to the actor for a lifetime.
In an upcoming preview for The Wendy Williams Show, set to air Oct. 26, Fergie, 42, tells the titan talk show host that her divorce “wasn’t my plan … I wanted to stay married forever.”
The confession comes with a barrage of tears as Fergie explains how much she still loves Josh and their joint commitment to their 4-year-old son Axl. “We forever have that project together,” she shares. “And we’re doing the best we can.”
Fergie and Josh confirmed their split in September in a joint statement, but sources say the two had been struggling with marriage issues for quite some time - prompting Josh to move out of their home this past spring.
Even though they were living apart, Fergie still kept of a façade of their happy union, carefully avoiding questions about the secrets of their marriage success in an interview with Cubby and Carolina in the Morning, just days before announcing their separation.
Despite their split, the two remain close. “We’re great friends, Josh and I, there’s so much love that we have for each other,” Fergie told Entertainment Tonight last month. “We really like each other, we have fun with each other. We’re just not a romantic couple anymore.”
