Rihanna's Fenty x Puma Show Had The Most Daring Stunts at NYFW

She is, after all, THE bad gal.

By Wendy Rose Gould

Rihanna definitely knows how to make an entrance, and last night’s Fenty x Puma NYFW fashion show was proof of that. Our girl—who just launched a much-hyped, highly inclusive beauty collection—took the whole “rev your engines” thing seriously and drove down the catwalk on a motorcycle. A motorcycle, people! If you missed this for-the-history books fashion show (and was it ever a show), we’ve got you with a five-minute recap.

The Setting

The Fenty x Puma SS18 fashion show took place at Park Avenue’s Armory and the runway was set up to look like a legit off-road biking range, only this one featured shimmering foothills in the perfect shade of cotton-candy pink. Four BMX bikers rode around doing dangerous, heart-pounding stunts where they soared through the air. Note that this is the same Park Avenue Armory location where Tom Ford held his fashion show this season, making for a seriously impressive four-day transformation.

The Celebs

With all the built-up excitement around the show, and Rihanna's recent beauty launch, everyone wanted to make sure they made it to this event. The front row was aptly star studded. Ashley Graham showed up, as did Pharell Williams, Whoopie Goldberg, TV Dolla Sign, and Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui.

The Models

Rihanna selected a diverse range of models to wear her clothing, including supermodel Adriana Lima, Duckie Thot, Stella Maxwell, Joan Smalls, and Taylor Hill.

The Hair + Makeup

The entire look was “athletic cool” meets “bad girl,” said YUSEF, Rihanna’s hair artist and the creative hair director for the show, in a press release. Think graphic, edgy, and utilitarian chic. Hair looked windswept and lived in, and makeup was created exclusively from the just-launched Fenty collection. Models wore a fresh, matte face using Fenty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation Longwear Foundation (which comes in 40 shades). On top, they wore layers of highlighter via Fenty Shimmer Skinsticks and Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters.

YUSEF said, “teamwork makes dream work,” and that “[Rihanna] is always involved in the look of hair and makeup; it is a team effort.”

The Collection

This collection was a perfectly balanced fusion of Rihanna and Puma with lots of color, lots of skin, and lots of fresh footwear.

Vogue wrote, “The collection itself was partly X Games inspired, with a number of classic surf references thrown in for good measure. In addition to biker shorts and scuba onesies, there were modern iterations of cheeky 1980s swim trends, including the French cut bathing suit, which has arguably been a hot button topic on beaches all over the land this summer.”
