The Yeezy Season 4 Show Made One High-Profile Fashion Critic "Physically Sick"
Who could forget this epic #NYFW fail?
It seems that Kanye West will not show at this year's New York Fashion Week, but we'll always have the memories. Like this indelible event from 2016:
Perhaps it was too hot. Perhaps they'd been standing—waiting for the late show to start—for too long. But whatever the reason, Kanye West's Yeezy Season 4 presentation resulted in several models down. Remember this epic #NYFW letdown? If not, let us refresh your memory with some choice quotes.
The Muse noted that models stood "in formation," under a blazing sun, for nearly two hours. And that was before the event even began. (That's a long time to go with no water.) High-profile fashion editors also made note of the not-ideal conditions.
The New York Times' Vanessa Friedman posted a photo of a model whose knees seemed to give out underneath her.
Meanwhile, The Cut's Stella Bugbee noted that one ailing model was given water by someone in the audience, but was not assisted by anyone on the #YeezySeason4 team. She continued to live Tweet the event, typing in horror as model after model seemed close to passing out. "Boycott #YeezySeason4," she tweeted, followed up with "I feel physically sick from that abomination."
Some questioned whether the collapsing had a pre-planned meaning. Washington Post critic Robin Givhan noted that the presentation's venue had once been the site of a smallpox hospital. "A plague was once quarantined on this island," she wrote.
Refinery29's Christene Barberich was similarly confused and discomfited. "I was wondering, should someone call the paramedics?" she wrote. "Should I CALL the paramedics? Is this part of the performance? Was the joke on me? Eventually the show began, and it definitely had its moments, but I just couldn't help sitting there feeling like a hypocrite watching a bunch of women suffer like that in the name of fashion."
Yikes!
