For so many, the best part about traveling is coming home with a new tan and a new wardrobe that looks great against it. Sound like you? Then you'll definitely want to get out that bucket list and make sure all eight of the following shopping meccas around the world are on it!
1. New York
Sex and the City re-runs continue to remind us that fashion can be one of life's most thrilling adventures, especially in New York City. You don’t have to visit the Big Apple during New York Fashion Week to get in on this — you can window shop your way through Madison Avenue or 5th Avenue (or a zillion other areas of the city) any time you like.
Obviously. We all know French girls' fashion is on fleek. Check out Louis Vuitton and Dior on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, where quintessential high-end brands and boutiques all represent. To blend in with the locals, you won't need a baguette or a beret — just put on your best black outfit and sunnies. Oh, and stick to coffee and cigarettes... très chic (cough cough).
It’s not all black and sleek in London: The city has a funkier fashion sense, and anything goes. Both Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen started here. Check out Oxford Street, Knightsbridge, and Camden markets. (What you won't find here? That tan you were after.)
This is where Italian fashion comes together. Italy was kind enough to give the world Versace, Valentino, Gucci, and Prada… plus so many more. You cannot leave Milan without buying suitcases full of leather jackets and bags. If you don’t purchase this fine leather in mass quantities, you will suffer serious shoppers’ remorse. The place is legendary for it.
Gwen Stefani taught the rest of us that Harajuku style is super fly, and this Japanese style influences many major fashion brands. With endless colorful and unique finds, Tokyo is nothing less than an adventure in shopping.
Berlin gives us the cool-kid street style we all wish came naturally. The original hipsters shop here for looks that say I literally found this this on my bedroom floor, and just threw it on.
7. Los Angeles
There are so many different options in L.A. to satisfy the whole range of tastes — from the boutiques on Melrose Avenue to the luxe shops of Rodeo Drive. Pair divine people watching with kitschy shopping on Venice Beach.
The beachwear coming out of Melbourne is fantastic — you can’t beat it anywhere in the world. There are so many up-and-coming designers here, and the homegrown vibe is a favorite for fashion bloggers. Though not usually considered one of the top destinations in the world for fashion, it is definitely one to watch.
