Jeff Bezos' Camp Tried to Get Him and His Ex to This $12,500 a Week Marriage Counseling Course in Maui
The Amazon founder and his estranged wife, MacKenzie Bezos, were supposed to undergo couples therapy with celebrity therapists at Maui Intensives Inc.
Jeff Bezos’ team tried to keep him and his estranged wife, Mackenzie, together with a $12,500-a-week intensive therapy retreat in Hawaii, reports Vanity Fair.
Friends wanted the Amazon boss “to agree to a 30-day physical separation from Sanchez, and encouraged Jeff and MacKenzie to undergo couples therapy with celebrity therapists Rae and Judy of Maui Intensives Inc.” Weekly fees for the intensive start at $12,500.
On the website, the center is described as providing “an exclusive therapeutic experience serving one person, couple, or family by the week on the island of Maui.” “The magic of an Intensive is being away from everyday stressors of life to enter your personal flow where transformation can occur,” the owners say.
Here is what happens during the week:
At Maui Intensives, you are the program, it says. “There are no groups, nor pre-determined curriculums. Rae and Judy weave together therapeutic tools and techniques eclectically to quickly address the core of your presenting issue. They are non-judging, solution focused, and client-centered creating a relaxed, supportive environment. You are equipped to go home and continue your progress.”
“An Intensive most often begins on a Monday or Thursday with Wednesdays and Sundays off for rest, integration, and play. You will meet with Rae and Judy each afternoon, ending when you feel complete. Removing the constraint of time allows for a natural flow to experience your own rhythm of deep exploration where obstacles become defined and solutions emerge efficiently. Each day’s structure is custom designed from the previous day’s outcome. Time away from sessions is very important, as it offers room to be with yourself, reflect, and notice what arises. While on Maui new routines for health and balance are established.”
When you do have time away from sessions, art therapy, yoga, Pilates, acupuncture, shiatsu, hiking, and ocean kayaking or paddle boarding are available to clients.
The center claims that in one week, you can accomplish what would ordinarily take years of 50-minute sessions to fix. The center was created in 2003, and has operated by word-of-mouth only. “Utmost attention is given to privacy and confidentiality. No contracts will be signed, no records will be kept. Your personal work will never be documented. How did we achieve this? We are a Psycho-Educational Counseling & Consulting Company, not a treatment center. As such, we are private pay only. Our base fee is $12,500 per week.”
Gavin De Becker, the security expert leading Jeff's investigation into his leaked text messages with Lauren Sanchez, is the person who tried to get Jeff and Mackenzie to attend the intensive. In fact, he offers a quote on the center’s website, saying, "The people I have referred to Rae and Judy have experienced profound value, clarity, and healing.”
De Becker also urged Jeff to take a 30-day break from seeing Sanchez.
It is unclear whether or not Jeff and his wife ever went to the retreat, but according to VF, “Bezos' private plane was in Hawaii from February 16 until February 22nd.”
He is currently still dating Sanchez.
