Craig Conover Shares a Major Sewing Update

Craig Conover launched a "sewing lifestyle brand" called Sewing Down South earlier this year, with an inaugural collection featuring designs inspired by his trips to the Bahamas. Now, with Hurricane Dorian barreling down on the islands, the Southern Charm entrepreneur has been moved to help with recovery efforts.

Craig donated all the proceeds from the sale of his $58 Bahamas-inspired spiny lobster pillow, which sold out instantly and raised almost $5,000 in one day, he revealed on his Instagram Stories.

"I just wanted to thank everyone for their incredible generosity and having empathy and respect for Abacos and the rest of the Bahamas," he said. "We actually sold out of our spiny lobster pillow, I just had to restock them, so we've raised almost $5,000 today that'll be donated directly to buying supplies to get to Abacos when people can actually get there."

Given that he spent so much therapeutic time down in the Abacos following his breakup with Naomie Olindo, it's no surprise that Craig is devastated by the storm's destruction. "It’s so upsetting to see what is happening to a place that felt like a sanctuary to me," he told Home & Design. "It’s one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever been. You can’t help but be drawn to the kindness of the people, and their spirit. And then the colors and the natural beauty of the island — it’s horrible to think about what they are going through."

"I have friends there now keeping me updated. They had shelters lined up and they were damaged. Abacos really needs some help," he continued. "I wanted to try and organize something to help or lend support and thought why not donate all of the sales from a pillow that was completely inspired by my time there. Maybe I can bring a little of what I love about the island to people who may have never been there, and help create a sense of community for the people of Abacos here. So, from today and through the week, 100 percent of the sales from our Bahamian pillow will go directly to relief and rescue operations."

Craig has also used his Sewing Down South venture as a vehicle to help the homeless by using pillow trimmings to create beautiful blankets to donate. Sew good!
