Who Does Ryan Murphy Want Sarah Paulson to Play in the Monica Lewinsky-Themed American Crime Story?
The prolific showrunner revealed some major details about the next American Crime Story cast on #WWHL.
Christmas came early for fans of Ryan Murphy's American Crime Story series when he announced some major news regarding the upcoming installment on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen Wednesday night.
The showrunner confirmed reports that the upcoming season will revolve around the people and events of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. "Jeffrey Toobin, who wrote The People v. O.J. Simpson, when we were just beginning to shoot that, we loved that so much that we tried to option everything he ever wrote. He wrote a book about the Monica Lewinsky-Linda Tripp escapades," Ryan said, referring to the book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President.
He also gave us some insight into who we might see playing these well-known individuals, and thank the TV Gods, because Ryan already has a role in mind for his frequent collaborator, Sarah Paulson. "I don't know who I would want to play Hillary [Clinton]. I think we're gonna cast an unknown as Monica," Ryan revealed. "I'm very interested and have talked to my good bartender friend Sarah Paulson about playing Linda Tripp, so we'll see if she will agree to do that because I always think of Sarah for everything."
But don't expect the Clintons to be the focus of the series. "I think our take on it is interesting. I don't think the Clintons need to be huge parts of that story. It's about the birth of a specific movement in our country. That's what we're interested in," he explained. "But yeah, we're working on the scripts now, and I think they're really good."
Well, we don't think this new American Crime Story can come soon enough. At least we have the excitement of the reveal of the next American Horror Story theme to tide us over until then.
