Candiace Dillard Bassett Called Leah McSweeney Out for Doing *This* on RHUGT

The Real Housewives of Potomac's Candiace Dillard Bassett answered some of our burning questions about RHUGT on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

There is no question that the newfound friendship between Candiace Dillard Bassett and Leah McSweeney was among the strongest on Season 3 of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip, but some things were just indefensible.

Candiace, of The Real Housewives of Potomac, appeared on the Sunday, April 16 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen alongside comedian Phoebe Robinson. During a game of “Can You Defend Her?” Andy ran through a list of controversial events — which he referred to as “Leah-isms”— involving The Real Housewives of New York City’s Leah during the RHUGT cast’s stay in Thailand.

Candiace came to Leah’s defense when asked if Leah was in the right to complain to lead concierge Pepsi about getting the worst room at Phuket’s Villa Aye, calling Leah’s concerns “valid.”

But when it came to Andy questioning whether Leah was fair when calling Alexia Nepola’s story about her ex a “snoozefest,” Candiace admitted, “That was mean.”

The tiff came after Alexia, of The Real Housewives of Miami, opened up to Leah about her former husband of 10 years, Herman Echevarria, who died of natural causes in a Miami hotel room in 2016. However, when the emotional subject of Herman’s death was brought up again with the RHUGT cast as a whole in Episode 2, Leah seemed to deflect, first by commenting on the dinner music.

“I feel like Alexia has, like, a loop,” Leah later told producers. “She has her things that she talks about, she’s sticking to them, and it’s like a script.”

As Alexia continued talking about Herman’s death, Leah requested that the rest of the cast order shots because she was “so bored,” something Andy also asked Candiace about on WWHL.

Candiace defended Leah, saying, “It’s a girls’ trip; everybody needs to be drunk, falling in a bush.”

Andy asked Candiace if it was fair that Leah blamed her period for her attitude during their trip to Thailand, and, once again, Candiace had Leah’s back.

“Periods wreak havoc on lives and uteruses,” Candiace said.

And on the topic of Leah’s menstrual cycle, which was threaded throughout the entire season (along with the rest of Leah’s health-related troubles), Andy wondered if Candiace could defend Leah for “not wearing panties” during the group’s shopping trip in Old Town Phuket, where Leah had a fainting spell.

“OK, this confused me,” Candiace admitted. “So, if you are having a menstrual moment, where are your undergarments? She said she was on her period. What kind of period is that?”

Andy also asked Candiace if she blamed Leah for becoming upset with The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Porsha Williams not tagging Leah and Candiace on Instagram when publishing a photo from the ‘Wives’ excursion to the elephant sanctuary.

“Yes, ‘cause Porsha, she did that on purpose,” said Candiace. “Girl, we see you.”

It wasn’t the first time Candiace came to Leah’s defense. The Potomac ‘Wife called Alexia and Marysol Pattonhaters” when the Miami 'Wives said during WWHL that they never wanted to vacation with Leah again.

“That’s so nasty,” Candiace said during an E! interview. “Leah is a fun girl.”

Alexia doubled down on her previous statements during a WWHL interview when she called Leah the show’s biggest drama queen.

“Honestly, I’m not trying to pick on her,” Alexia told Andy. “But I just didn’t find her interested enough, so why would I be interested in her?”

You can see more of Candiace’s interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, airing Sundays through Thursdays on Bravo, with episodes available to stream the next day on Peacock. And catch up on The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip as Season 3 continues, only on Peacock.
