Captain Sandy Yawn's Girlfriend Leah Shafer Receives Results of Breast Cancer Surgery
"It was like the longest six weeks of my life," the Below Deck Med boss' partner said.
Captain Sandy Yawn's girlfriend, Leah Shafer, received good news following her recent surgery to remove pre-cancerous cysts in her right breast.
Leah shared the results of her lumpectomy last week in a post on Instagram on Thursday, October 10. "Hi, everyone. I wanted to thank you all again for all your support along the way. I just got the phone call back from the doctor, and I am good. My margins are clear, and everything's good," Leah shared, fighting back tears in the video. "It was like the longest six weeks of my life, honestly. But thank you, everyone. I'm grateful to God."
Doctors discovered pre-cancerous cysts in Leah's right breast area in August. She had also been diagnosed with lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), which means she has a higher risk of developing breast cancer. "So now really all I have to do is just go get checked every six months, get the MRI, continue with the mammograms and the ultrasounds and just be on top of it," Leah said in the video on Instagram. "It's all about catching things early, so that's the idea — especially, I have LCIS, so I need to still be cautious."
Leah ended the video by thanking fans for all of their love and support during this difficult time. "But I'm really glad and thank you, everyone," she shared. "My prayers go out to those who maybe didn't get such good news today. Keep God first, keep praying, keep your faith, and I love you all."
Captain Sandy has been there for Leah during this difficult time, showing her support on social media and asking Below Deck Mediterranean fans to pray for her girlfriend's health.
Captain Sandy and Leah have been together since November 2018, and the Below Deck Med boss went public with their relationship in May of this year. She recently dished all about their romance in the Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4 After Show, which you can view, above. "It's magical. She's so amazing, and I'm so in love," Captain Sandy gushed. "She adds to my happiness, so I'm a happy soul. I am. Then I have another happy soul. It's like right now I think we're the brightest light on the planet."
