Captain Sandy Yawn Just Shared Some Huge News About Girlfriend Leah Shafer
The Below Deck Med boss dishes on bonding with her girlfriend's daughter and if marriage is in the couple's future.
Captain Sandy Yawn may breathe in that salty sea while away on charter on Below Deck Mediterranean, but when she comes home, love is the only thing in the air, thanks to longtime girlfriend Leah Shafer.
The Below Deck Med boss confirmed as much during an exclusive interview with Bravo Insider in June, sharing that she and Leah, who first met in 2018, are as "amazing" as ever these days. "She’s awesome. She’s starting a new business which is really great," Captain Sandy gushed about her girlfriend. "And yeah, life is good. Just love in the air."
As Captain Sandy mentioned, Leah has been working to open Hydralounge, which offers IV therapy and other treatments, and the couple celebrated its launch in Denver last month. Leah, who is a medical aesthetician, pivoted her business due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, according to Captain Sandy. "She just thought outside the box and thought, 'How do I keep people healthy and keep my business thriving?'" Captain Sandy said. "And that’s what she thought of."
But when they're not at work, it's all about family for this couple, who not only spend time with each other but also with Leah's daughter from her previous marriage, Lauren. Of course, Captain Sandy has grown close to Lauren, who celebrated her 15th birthday in May, since she started dating Leah, and they all live together at their home in Denver. "Yeah, it’s awesome," Captain Sandy said of all three of them being together under one roof.
Lauren has also been there for Captain Sandy. The teen recently used what she had learned from an editing class in school to help Captain Sandy edit a speech that she later recited to about 800 people in Texas, the Below Deck Med boss recalled.
When it comes to what's next for the couple, they are currently building a house together in Florida, which Captain Sandy previously told Bravo Insider in May should take about 18 months to complete.
As far as the possibility of she and Leah one day tying the knot, Captain Sandy said, "Yeah, you know, honestly, slow and steady wins the race. So I do. I do. I mean, who knows? Like, it’s only been two years. Just under two years, so let’s see."
Still, Captain Sandy had quite the cheeky caption in a recent Instagram post that featured a lovely photo of herself and Leah at the wedding of Dr. Jennifer Berman, who has appeared as a charter guest on Below Deck Med in the past. "What an epic night," Captain Sandy wrote on June 20. "It was full of love with @ericjaybaker [and] @jenbermanmd and who knows who’s next to do this thang! @leahraeshafer."
For now, we have plenty of gorgeous photos of Captain Sandy and Leah to admire.
