Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard's "Babe" Drama, Explained

After missing the first weekend of the summer so they could go to an event at the White House, Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke were feeling a bit anxious about heading out to the Hamptons on Summer House Season 8, Episode 2.

Before the pair made their way out east, Lindsay met up with Carl in New York City after he shot some hoops with friends.

Though Lindsay and Carl initially kept their courtside chat lighthearted, the then-engaged duo began to clash when the latter housemate made a joke about how often he called her "babe" the summer before.

Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke's "Babe" Drama, Explained

After noticing how often Lindsay and Carl referred to one another as "Babe" on Summer House Season 7, the former Loverboy VP of Sales joked about making a change to his vernacular on Season 8, Episode 2 (which aired on February 29).

"I'm not gonna say 'babe' this summer," he told the former PR rep while they were sitting together by the basketball court. "I'm gonna say 'dude.'"

Though Carl said the comment in jest, it struck a chord with his then-fiancée. 

"Do you really care what people think about you?" Lindsay asked. 

"I'm just making a joke," Carl responded, but Lindsay wasn't completely satisfied with his answer. 

"Do you call me 'babe' at home?" Lindsay wondered, and Carl confirmed, "Yeah."

"I was making a joke," he said in his defense. "It didn't work."

"Yeah," Lindsay replied. "It didn't work."

Carl Radke Opens Up About Planning an "Incredibly Stressful" Wedding

After their tense exchange, Lindsay and Carl discussed how their plans for their November wedding were coming along (the couple ultimately called off their engagement in September 2023). Though they both felt like their plans were in a "lull" at that point in the summer, they agreed that things would likely ramp up again in the following weeks. 

"Lindsay and I have been in a pretty good place, but, like most couples, we absolutely have our sh-t," Carl said in an interview on the episode. "You know, I think we've been dead set on getting to this wedding day, you know, we're excited, but it's been incredibly stressful."

As a result, Carl said, he really wanted to "let loose" that summer. Lindsay agreed, and in a confessional of her own, said that she was "feel[ing] really good" about going to the Hamptons. 

However, Carl and Lindsay's good feeling about the summer didn't last for too long. During the first night out, the couple got into a bit of a disagreement while in the car.
