How to Watch

Watch Summer House on Bravo Thursdays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

During the May 30 episode, viewers watched as Carl and Lindsay had the conversation that ultimately ended their engagement. As they discussed some of the challenges in their relationship prior to breaking up, Carl asked Lindsay, "Sunday night, how did we get to where you pull out your phone and tell me you were going to record the conversation?"

They briefly talked about the argument that occurred during a car ride home from the Hamptons, explaining that it started over a disagreement about Labor Day Weekend plans and resulted in Carl recording the remainder of their conversation as it escalated.

In the Summer House Season 8 After Show video above, Carl and Lindsay break down their different perspectives on that argument, including why it was recorded.

What happened during Lindsay and Carl's car argument?

"The recording thing was not the first time that this happened," Carl shared. "And granted, I recorded her in response, so I'm not saying I'm totally in the clear."

Lindsay explained in the clip that after leaving the Surf Lodge in Montauk on the Sunday they were referencing, she brought up Labor Day weekend plans and told Carl she did not want to go to Montauk but would prefer to go to Florida with him. Carl wanted to stay local because they were leaving for Portugal right after Labor Day.

From there, Carl said, "It just continued to elevate."

Lindsay Hubbard Reveals Carl Radke's "Hurtful" Comment About Their Engagement

As Lindsay recalls, "[Carl] was like, 'You don't understand, Lindsay, you're a certain way. And I was like, 'I don't understand what you're talking about. If you don't like the person I am, then why did you propose to me?' and in that moment he goes, 'I don't know why I proposed to you,' and that is probably one of the most hurtful things that you can say to someone.'"

Although Carl said he was "trying to be calm," he noted, "I was frustrated and probably short and probably not my best self either."

Still, he declared, "I promise you, I wasn't yelling and screaming. I was just trying to, like, clear the air and calm things down."

"It turns into her picking up her phone while I'm driving down the Long Island Expressway, her basically saying that I'm yelling and screaming at her and she's going to record me so people can hear how abusive and horrible I am to her," he added.

Lindsay then explained why she wanted to record the call. "You just said one of the most f-cked up things you can say to somebody, and I have no idea what's about to come my way," she said. "So I'm like, 'I should just start recording what you said.' I do not record. He then presses record on his phone."

Carl confirmed he recorded the call. "OK, you're going to record me? I'm going to record, too. Because I'm not screaming... This is nuts," he said. "So I put the phone in the center console and press record."

Lindsay alleged that Carl started "manipulating the recording."

"Literally in the car [he] goes, 'Stop yelling at me, Lindsay. Stop yelling at me, Lindsay,'" she said. "And I'm like, 'What?' I'm like, 'Carl, I am literally not yelling at you. I'm trying to set up plans for next weekend with you.'"

As the Summer House finale showed, the argument was never resolved.

"I slept in the guest bedroom Sunday night, Monday night, Tuesday night," Carl shared, noting they ultimately broke up that Wednesday during the viewers saw.
