Denise Richards Shares a “Surreal” Update on Her Daughter Sami Sheen: "I'm So Proud of You"
The RHOBH alum celebrated her firstborn's birthday with a special message.
Denise Richards’ “baby girl” is all grown up.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum took to Instagram over the weekend to celebrate her firstborn daughter, Sami Sheen. The occasion? Well, Sami officially turned the big 2-0 on Saturday, March 9 — a milestone that left Denise with all kinds of emotions.
“Happy 20th birthday my beautiful Sami girl,” she wrote in an Instagram carousel. “I love you so much & I’m so proud of you. You’re as beautiful inside & have been a wise soul since the day you were born. I love you so much and I’m beyond grateful & blessed to be your mom.”

Denise Richards says it feels "surreal" to have a 20-year-old child
The post included a photo of the mother and daughter posing side-by-side at what appeared to be a horse stable. The following pictures showed Sami — whom Denise shares with her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen — during her toddler years. One of the snaps captured Denise’s mom, Joni Richards, holding Sami and her little sister, Lola. Joni died in 2007 after a long battle with kidney cancer.
“I love you girlie girl,” Denise continued. “And your Nana is always watching over you & here with you always & I know she is so proud of you too. Happy Birthday.”
Denise also touched on Sami’s special day during her March 8 appearance on The Talk.
“Happy birthday, Sami!” she said during the broadcast. “[Time] really does go so fast. And it’s so surreal because I turned 20 when I got my first acting job (Saved by the Bell). So it’s really strange to have a real now grown-up (child).”

Sami shared a peek at her birthday celebration in a March 10 Instagram post. The model/actress spent the day in Malibu, where she enjoyed a gorgeous picnic on the beach along with a few friends and her beau, Aiden David. The crew concluded the fun-filled day with a trip to the bowling alley and, of course, some delicious-looking cake.
“Cheers to a new decade!” Sami captioned the post, followed by the “20” hashtag.
Denise Richards reflects on the struggles of modern-day parenting
Denise — who also has a 12-year-old adoptive daughter, Eloise — reflected on motherhood during a 2019 episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills After Show. She spoke about co-parenting with Charlie and how modern technology has affected discipline strategies.
“It’s very, very different. When I was growing up, my father worked for the f—king phone company so he would tap the line so he would know when we were lying,” she said. “They would let us sneak out and they would show the f—k up at the party and I’d be like, ‘How did my parents know?’ But they let us go to catch us.”
She continued: “My father put the fear of God into my sister and I that if we ever did drugs he would kick us out of the house. And I was like, in Illinois in the winter I don’t want to be kicked out of the house, so I never tried anything. Here, you kick your kids out, they’ll go to another mansion, another family with f—king Postmates, and there’s f—king Ubers. They’d love to be kicked out.”
