After talking to stew Xandi Olivier about how loud kids can be while traveling on Season 11, Episode 2, Kerry reflected on his life as a dad in an interview on the episode.

"My kids are the best kids in the world," the Aussie captain said. "My son, Sawyer, he's 13, and my daughter, Shaye, she's 11. My son, he's a huge character — big heart, he's like his dad. He's very, very sensitive. My daughter, she's an absolute firecracker. We have a very close bond."

As Kerry explained, due to the nature of his job, he's gone for stretches of time.

"Ever since they were small, I was gone 10 months of the year. But, as they got older, I was able to find jobs where I was home more often, [because] I don't want to miss out on part of their [lives]," he continued. "I want to be there for them; I'm a family man, 100 percent."

When Kerry does have the opportunity to be home, he likes to spend one-on-one time with each of his kids.

"My son and I, we get proper training in jiu-jitsu," Kerry exclusively told The Daily Dish. "I'm doing that really for him. It's a good investment for him... I think it's a fantastic sport."

He joked, "Then, I'm doing it for me because when he gets tough enough, I can defend myself."

With his youngest child, he does "DDWs" aka Daddy Daughter Wednesdays, which often includes getting fun beverages from Starbucks before dropping her off at school.

"That's our thing. Just her and I, you know, she can just talk my head off, or not," he continued. "It's just amazing."

Kerry is thrilled to be so close to his kids, particularly after going through a difficult divorce with their mom.

"I've got a really good connection with both of my children, and that's the silver lining from, you know, something horrible happened in my, my life," he told The Daily Dish. "And being able to work on myself, and get myself to a good place, and humble myself, and take a look at who I was and how I am, and improve. I would never have looked at myself otherwise."
