UPDATE (JUNE 2, 10:05 A.M.): After officially becoming husband and wife in April, Family Karma’s Shaan and Pooja held a grand wedding ceremony last weekend.
The couple said “I do” surrounded by friends and family on the beach in the Dominican Republic on May 28. Shaan shared photos from the big day on Instagram on June 1, which also commemorated his 30th birthday. The pics show Shaan and Pooja surrounded by a gorgeous floral display and walking down the aisle as newlyweds while being celebrated by their wedding guests. The next slide in the post also gives another glimpse at the wedding ceremony. “30 [and] MARRIED,” Shaan captioned the photos. “What a time!”
In the days leading up to their nuptials, the bride and groom posted photos and videos of their prep for the big day, including Pooja getting her bridal henna applied, the traditional Grah Shanti and Pithi ritual, and pre-wedding celebrations with loved ones.
Shaan also gave a special shout-out to his siblings, including his brother and Family Karma castmate Dillon, while sharing a video captured by a 360 photo booth during the reception. “So lucky to have the support and love of these amazing people,” Shaan gushed about his family members. “Couldn’t be luckier to have [Dillon and Kayla Patel] and now [brother-in-law Kishen Patel] as my siblings.”
The original story continues below.
Love is definitely in the air for the Family Karma cast.
First, longtime couple Vishal Parvani and Richa Sadana tied the knot in January. And just this past weekend, Amrit Kapai and Nicholas Kouchoukos said "I do." But these aren't the only Family Karma couples to walk down the aisle this year.
Shaan Patel and his fiancée, Pooja, are also now officially married! The couple held their civil ceremony on Sunday, April 3, at the Pérez Art Museum in Miami. It was officiated by the mayor of Miami-Dade County, Daniella Levine Cava, and featured the most adorable wedding guest, the couple's dog, Sukhi, all dressed up in a bow tie, of course.
Shaan shared the happy news on Instagram on Tuesday, April 5. "We couldn't wait. When it came to our civil (legal) wedding, we had no clue what to do," he wrote in the post, which featured several pics from the ceremony. "We have a big family wedding coming in May out of the country, so we decided to do something small, intimate, and secret."
He went on to give a "big thanks" to Mayor Levine Cava "for indulging us and officiating" and showed his appreciation for the wedding photographer. "Finally, to my beautiful WIFE [Pooja]," Shaan concluded the post. "I vow to forever be your home."
Pooja also opened up about the joyous occasion on Instagram on April 5, including the significance of the wedding venue. "On Sunday Shaan and I officially got married. We couldn't think of a more perfect place to make our vows than where we had our first date, the Perez Art Museum," she gushed in a post that featured a series of snaps from the big day. "We had our sweet pup Sukhi there too to witness us make our promises to each other ultimately making our little family official. AAAND being Mr. Miami Shaan had the Mayor of [Miami-Dade] County to officiate. Thank you to everyone who made this day beautiful, a special shout out to our lovely photographer @vanessaandjohnny and her family for capturing the joy and love on that day."
Just as Shaan hinted, Pooja also assured her loved ones that the couple will be having a bigger wedding in the future. "To all our guests — don't worry there is still going to be a big fat Indian wedding," she said on Instagram. "Words can't describe how excited I am to celebrate with y'all."
Congratulations have poured in from the Family Karma crew, including Bali Chainani, Vishal, Amrit, and Anisha Ramakrishna, all of whom left the warmest wishes for the couple in the comments of their Instagram posts. Shaan's younger brother, Dillon Patel, also cheered the couple on in his Instagram Stories, writing, "Congrats Babes."
Shaan and Pooja got engaged after nearly two and a half years of dating while on a romantic getaway in Tulum, Mexico, in February 2021. "I asked her for forever, and forever is what she promised," Shaan said of the engagement, sharing photos on Instagram of the moment he popped the question. "Thank you [Pooja] for loving me, holding me, and treating me like I’m the only person in the world. I can’t wait to share my life with you."
The couple later celebrated their love with friends and family with a traditional Indian engagement ceremony. "For us, the engagement ceremony was bringing our families together and strengthening the promise we made to each other," Shaan wrote on Instagram, sharing a collection of photos from the event in March 2021. "Can’t wait to take the next step and continue our journey together."
While we can't wait to see Shaan and Pooja's upcoming celebration, we already know that they look absolutely amazing together at weddings, thanks to some recent photos of them attending other people's nuptials. Shaan even wished a "happy 3rd anniversary to my now and forever wedding date" while at a destination wedding in Mexico with Pooja in September, adding, "Can’t wait for our own special day soon."
