Jeff Lewis on Co-Parenting Daughter Monroe with Ex Gage Edward: "You Would Think We’re a Happy Family"
Jeff Lewis reveals how he and Gage Edward are raising their daughter amid their breakup.
Jeff Lewis and Gage Edward are keeping their family together, even if their romantic relationship has ended.
The Flipping Out designer shared in the February 19 episode of his Radio Andy show, Jeff Lewis Live, that he and Gage have been successfully co-parenting their 2-year-old daughter, Monroe. Jeff said that he and Gage had breakfast together with Monroe at the Hollywood home they once shared together, according to PEOPLE. Gage then “went off and did his own thing” before returning to Jeff's home that night to put Monroe to bed. “It was totally nice,” Jeff said, as reported by PEOPLE. “If you saw us, you would think we’re a happy family. We’re not, but you would think we were.”
Gage moved out of the house and into a hotel when the couple decided to separate at the end of January. He later moved into an apartment of his own. Monroe has remained at the house with Jeff.
Prior to their breakup, Jeff and Gage had been sleeping in separate rooms for the better part of last year. Jeff compared it to "a roommate situation" and felt like they had been living more like "friends with benefits."
Now Gage will be taking care of Monroe while Jeff is away on a business trip later this week. “I have to be gone for six days and five nights. He’s going to be in the guest room,” Jeff said during the February 19 episode of his radio show. "I said to him, 'I’m really happy you’re coming here and staying with her because I have a lot of anxiety for leaving her for five nights.'"
Jeff has said previously that he doesn't "even want to go there" when it comes to thinking about a custody arrangement for Monroe. However, he promised on his radio show earlier this month that he'll always let Gage see Monroe whenever he wants. "If there's bumps in the road, and there could be, and this could get a little contentious, I just want to vow that I will never use our baby as a weapon. And I thought about it this morning, if there is some judge that says, 'OK, Gage, you get the baby Monday, Tuesday, Thursday,' I am making a vow that even though some judge stipulates when he can see the baby, he can see the baby whenever he wants to see the baby. And I don't care what any judge says," Jeff shared. "He needs to know that, that he has 24-hour access."
Even though Jeff and Gage haven't always been on the best of terms throughout their separation, Jeff's praise of Gage's parenting skills has never wavered. "As much as I can't stand him right now, he's a great dad," he said on his radio show earlier this month. "He's a great dad, and she loves him."
