Kate Chastain’s Reaction to Ben Robinson’s Engagement Is *Chef’s Kiss*
The Below Deck alum sent a cheeky congratulations to her longtime BFF.
From buying a new home and welcoming her first baby, Kate Chastain has made big transitions over the past several months. But what thankfully hasn’t changed is her unparalleled sarcasm and sense of humor.
The Below Deck alum proved this on social media this week when just hours after her former castmate Ben Robinson announced his engagement to Kiara Cabral, she posted her response. Kate celebrated the big news via Instagram, where she also poked fun at some recent rumors about her life.
“Congratulations!" Kate captioned a screengrab of an article about the engagement. "She’s going to be the best stepmom ever!”
It's clear the new mother was in on the joke regarding any recent gossip about her newborn. Earlier this week, she joked, “For the record, the only thing this handsome guy has in common with any chef is the tendency to get emotional around meal times."
Kate gave birth to her son, Sullivan Cay, last week, nearly five months after confirming her pregnancy. The Florida native spoke about preparing for motherhood during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last year, when she revealed she would be raising her child "solo.”
“I am absolutely thrilled to become a mother,” she gushed. “It’s something I’ve always hoped for so this is truly a dream come true!… I’m doing it solo and perhaps with some help, but I’m happy to do it alone.”
While these days, Kate and Ben are just BFFs, the two sparked dating rumors during their time together on Below Deck, but pushed back against the speculation during the series' Season 3 reunion, insisting they were nothing more than friends. However, those rumors were fueled during a 2019 episode of WWHL, when Kate implied she and Ben had hooked up at least once.
She made the comment while playing “Would You Screw That Crew?” — a game in which she revealed the Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean crew members she would hook up with.
“What about chef Ben?” Andy asked Kate.
“Not again,” she replied.
That brings us to the present time. Before welcoming her baby, Ben shared a heartfelt post about the then-expectant mother on April 10.
“Who knew that Kate Chastain and I would be the same weight one day,” Ben joked in the caption of a post featuring a photo of the two posing together. “But to be fair I have been hitting the gym! Please wish my great friend [Kate Chastain] an easy delivery and a healthy beautiful baby! I am so proud of who you have become and the mother you will soon be.”
It's clear these two have a lot of love (and a lot of jokes) for one another!
