Kate Chastain Breaks Down Exactly How She Sabotaged Kevin Dobson's Penis Cake

Rhylee Gerber said the Below Deck moment was "perfect in all of its horror."

By Laura Rosenfeld

After a season full of tension with the Below Deck chef, Kate Chastain got the ultimate revenge on Kevin Dobson during the final charter of the season. After primary charter guest Jemele Hill requested a penis-shaped cake to be served during one dinner on the charter, Kate not only advised Kevin on how it should be molded but also sabotaged the presentation of the dessert, leading to one of the most awkward moments in Below Deck history.

How to Watch

"I did not plan this, but it happened," Kate said during the Below Deck Season 7 After Show, which you can view, above.

Kate then broke down exactly how the crew ended up with such a bold cake and a table full of stunned charter guests.

For starters, Kate encouraged Kevin to make the cake vertical rather than horizontal, which he was originally going to go with. "I'm just saying, I thought it would be more wow," Kate shared.

But then Kate and Kevin got into an argument over how lunch should be served during the charter guests' beach picnic, which ended with the chef calling the chief stew "a dick." So by the time dinner came along, Kate was really not feeling Kevin's energy in the galley. He then kept asking her when would be the right time to serve the cake, not knowing that Jemele had actually decided to leave the table and retire for the night. "He had just called me a dick for asking for lunchtime things," Kate explained. "So I was like, 'Oh, OK. Go do your thing, Kevin. You think you know timing? Go.'"

Kate Chastain: Who's the Dick Now, Kevin?

Kevin excitedly served the cake while the charter guests and Captain Lee Rosbach were having a serious discussion. "It was like the most inappropriate time," Kate recalled.

Rhylee Gerber called it "the perfect f--king setup" during the Below Deck Season 7 After Show. "Perfect in all of its horror," she said.

Kevin shared what he thought would have been the more professional way of handling the situation. "Any waitress or anything would be like, 'Hold on, the birthday girl's not there, and she's gone to bed. Like, let's just hold the cake for tomorrow morning or let's ask the guests if they want the cake still,'" he said during the Below Deck Season 7 After Show. "She just sent me out. Like, she knew what she was doing right from like 6, 5 o'clock."

Ultimately, Kate's revenge was detrimental for the entire crew, according to Kevin. "That's not a team effort at all. That's like an individual getting some back. Good on her. Whatever," Kevin said. "And she got some back, but at the expense of the guest experience, and as a team I think she kind of ruined it for everyone."
