Dr. Contessa Metcalfe Has “No Regrets” About This Married to Medicine Moment
The Married to Medicine doctor’s fitness journey culminated with a major triumph.
The haute doc has arrived. After months of sacrifice and dedication, Dr. Contessa Metcalfe finally got to participate in her first fitness competition during Married to Medicine’s October 2 episode. And despite the rigors of early-morning training sessions and a strict diet, she had “no regrets” once she saw all of her hard work pay off.
Hours after the episode aired, Contessa took to Instagram to reflect on her fitness journey, which culminated with her winning several medals at the 2022 NPC Atlanta All States Invitational in the wellness category. Set to the tune of Kirk Franklin’s “Imagine Me,” the Married to Medicine cast member’s social media montage featured several seriously impressive competition photos, along with several heartwarming moments with her biggest fans, including her father; her husband, Dr. Scott Metcalfe; and their three children, Lauren, Landon, and Laila.
“My first step towards recovery was to admit I had a problem,” she began the lengthy caption accompanying her October 3 post. “Last year I gained so much mental (and physical) weight trying [to] hold in what I was going through in my personal life. And then I learned… transparency is freedom.”
Though it was revealed at the Married to Medicine Season 8 reunion that Contessa had filed for separation from Scott, the couple began Season 9 in a much better place (clip above). Elsewhere in her Instagram caption, the Atlanta-based physician even credited her husband and family as her “motivation for striving towards excellence.” She continued, “I thank you for your unconditional love and without the blessing of you… nothing is possible.”
Also expressing appreciation for the rest of her loved ones for “putting that NECESSARY pressure on me to continue until the deed was done,” Dr. Contessa added, “My love for you is limitless and infinite,” along with “It Takes a Village” as a hashtag.
Indeed, learning who she could count on was a major lesson she learned on her journey toward physical and mental fitness. “There is not room for everyone on your journey to self-improvement, and many people will try to keep you stuck in the past, weaponize your trauma and constantly remind you of your lowest and saddest moments. But that’s their arrested development. And, if you allow Him to, God will de-select them from your journey.”
Finally, she capped off her post with nearly two dozen additional hashtags that painted a picture of the self-love she’s learned to embody. Among them were such phrases as “totally in love with me,” “perfection is a myth,” “only myself to beat,” and of course, “no regrets,” which she emphasized in all caps.
Cheering her on from afar were members of the Married to Medicine family, including Lisa Nicole Cloud, who commented, “Congrats Contessa. You did it and you look amazing. So happy and proud of you Sis! Keep Soaring!” Meanwhile, Married to Medicine Los Angeles’ Asha Kamali Blankinship chimed in, “Go girl,” adding six red heart emojis.
They were also joined by several Housewives, including The Real Housewives of Potomac’s Dr. Wendy Osefo and Askale Davis, The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Marlo Hampton, and The Real Housewives of New York City’s Eboni K. Williams, who wrote, “INCREDIBLE!! Never surprised but always proud Doc,” along with two applause emojis.
After also overcoming her fear of parading in front of an audience wearing a green bikini, Contessa certainly deserves all the flowers coming her way.
