Melissa and Joe Gorga Are Doing Something They’ve “Never” Done: “This Is a First for Us”
The RHONJ couple took fans inside their “magical” Italian getaway.
Melissa Gorga is experiencing Italy like never before.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member kicked off her European getaway this week on the Amalfi Coast, where she enjoyed delicious food, good wine, and breathtaking views with her husband, Joe Gorga. The couple spoke about their trip on the July 27 episode of Melissa’s On Display podcast, which was recorded days before they arrived in Positano.
Melissa and Joe Gorga’s Italian vacation marks a “first” for the couple
“This is technically not our honeymoon. It’s our relaxation time,” Melissa said. “Joe and I are going to Positano and Capri. We are very excited about it.”
The trip was especially notable because it marked a “first” for the husband and wife of 18 years.
“Fun fact: Joe’s been to Italy, I’ve been to Italy, [but] we’ve never been to Italy together,” Melissa revealed. “So this is a first for us.”
The tidbit likely surprised some listeners, considering Joe’s strong connection to the country. His parents — Antonia and Giacinto Gorga — both hailed from Sala Consilina, Italy, the same town where his former brother-in-law Joe Giudice (ex-husband of RHONJ’s Teresa Giudice) was born.

On July 27, the Gorgas posted videos and photos from their Positano experience, which Melissa described as “magical.” She uploaded pictures of her posing on a terrace with gorgeous hillside homes in the backdrop, and went on to share photos of her mouthwatering pasta dish at Chez Black, several stunning videos of their water excursions, and a few snaps of Le Sirenuse, the five-star luxury hotel they stayed in.
Melissa and Joe’s kids “refused” to go on the vacation
Melissa said she had planned for a family vacation, but her children simply weren’t interested.
“We invited our kids to Italy because we wanted to take them with us on a family trip, but Antonia said no because it’s her high school graduating year — she has so many graduation parties. And Gino and Joey, it’s their dead week, which means all the kids are off of football and sports.”
The boutique owner said she intentionally scheduled the trip so that it wouldn’t interfere with her kids’ summer activities; however, they declined the offer as they wanted to spend their time off with pals.
“They refused to come because their friends all rented houses on LBI (Long Beach Island) and all of these things,” the Jersey mom said. “So Joe and I are now taking a honeymoon to Italy.”
“I don’t blame them,” Joe added.
“Who says no to Positano and Capri to go to the Jersey beaches?” Melissa asked. “Just tell me, please.”
“Go back now to when you were 15, 16, 17, down at the Jersey Shore and you were walking that strip,” Joe said, before Melissa recalled the experience as “exciting.”
“It was,” Joe confirmed. “I fell in love 18 times within that hour. Think about these kids now. Our boys… they’re looking at girls all the time. It’s what they like. They hang out at the beach, they walk the boardwalk… It’s the hormones.”
