After the cameras stopped rolling on the eighth season, the mom of three confirmed her separation from Gordon Thornton after 11 years of marriage.

Mia has since gone public with a new man, Atlanta-based radio personality Incognito, and she's been co-parenting with Gordon. However, on Season 8, viewers have been able to get some insight into the final months of Mia and Gordon's marriage.

On Season 8, Episode 12, Mia chatted with the other RHOP ladies about the recent "hard" time in her relationship, and she also spoke directly with Gordon about what their lives would look like if they decided to get divorced.

Mia Thornton Talks to the RHOP Ladies About Her Marriage

During the rolling event for Eddie Osefo's business, Happy Eddie, Robyn Dixon asked Mia for an update on her relationship.

"We're doing good," Mia said, though her subsequent comments indicated otherwise. "In marriage, marriage is already hard enough. And, I'm just like, you know, I actually want to clock the f-ck out, right? But, I can't leave him now."

As Mia explained, following Gordon's business issues with his family members, he's been estranged from his relatives.

"He has nobody. Like what type of person would I be at this point?" she continued. "His family has [turned their back on him], and they don't care if he's eating tomorrow."

Mia Thornton and Gordon Thornton Discuss Divorce

Later on in the episode, after the Happy Eddie event, Mia and Gordon went on a day date to get lunch. Once the spouses sat down, they began to talk about the recent difficulties they've been facing in their marriage.

"We have to find a way to have balance," Mia told Gordon at the restaurant.

In an interview on the episode, Mia confirmed that she and Gordon were still seeing a marriage therapist to work on their unresolved issues.

"We are continuing to see a therapist to work on our relationship. We're trying to take her advice and spend more quality time together, and the reason why we go on the day dates is because we don't have a nanny," she explained. "It's a problem for me."

She told Gordon that she felt like it was "important for [them] to follow up with therapy and stay consistent with that."

"The family business is obviously impacting our relationship," she said.

"Agreed, because you cut me deep and hard pretty often," Gordon responded.

In her interview, Mia revealed why she was "concerned" about the future of her marriage.

"I'm not blaming him, but I am concerned that he doesn't see the role that he plays that caused the sequence of events for him to get kicked out that then caused me not continue to be in my role, which then caused us to move..." she said. "We didn't just wake up one day and the family said, 'Hey, we no longer want you in these seats.'"

The spouses then pivoted their conversation to talk about Ashley Darby's divorce.

When Gordon asked how he thinks that they would "handle that type of situation," Mia said that she thinks that Gordon would have given her "some type of settlement."

"No, it wouldn't have gotten that far," Gordon said. "We would have come to an arrangement, probably still stayed together — and I want you to think about this for a minute. I get what I want because I'm married to a beautiful woman, you get what you want by still having me around. We're still co-parenting the kids, and we would still probably work out some kind of arrangement that is mutually beneficial... In other words, if we can find a deal that makes sense and works out, why would we split up?"

But by September 2023, the two had done just that by announcing their intention to end their marriage.
