Below Deck Med Producers Shed New Light on That Charter Guest Spanx Fight
Johnny Damon's wife, Michelle, didn't hold back when her fellow charter guest questioned her undergarments.
We've seen charter guests get into all sorts of drama on the various Below Deck franchises over the years. However, the latest conflict among the charter guests featured in the August 31 episode of Below Deck Mediterranean was definitely a first.
Season 5, Episode 14 saw the return of Johnny Damon and his wife, Michelle Damon, for another sure-to-be epic charter on Below Deck Med. They didn't waste any time in bringing the party or the drama when charter guest Shanna claimed Michelle was wearing Spanx. After Michelle showed her undergarments in an effort to prove she was, in fact, not wearing Spanx, the two had a tense talk on the yacht. Shanna ultimately apologized to Michelle, and they made up.
But Malia White had no idea all of this had gone down and only heard of the incident during the Below Deck Mediterranean Season 5 After Show (clip above). "I'm surprised we missed that," Malia said. "Well, I'm surprised the deck boys weren't talking about it if it was a woman flashing her thong."
Aesha Scott, who had only joined The Wellington crew hours before the charter began, appeared to be one of the only yachties to overhear Michelle and Shanna's argument. "I think I just remember listening to their argument, and I was just like, 'How is this even an argument?'" Aesha recalled in the Below Deck Med After Show. "Most normal people, it's like, you want to avoid drama at all costs. And it's like, so someone asks if you're wearing Spanx, who cares? Just move on. Honestly, get over it. It's so over the top."
Below Deck Med executive producer Nadine Rajabi could hardly believe her ears, either. "I mean, come on! I was laughing so hard," she said in the Below Deck Med After Show. "[That is] one of those moments when you're in the control room, you're like, 'Wait, did I hear that right? They're actually fighting about Spanx?'"
Josh Brown, Vice President, Current Production at Bravo, noted that Johnny and Michelle are two charter guests who aren't afraid to speak their mind, recalling their scuffle with a yacht owner in Season 4. "They let it all hang out — and I'm not talking about Spanx; I'm talking about their feelings," he said. "You know, we saw Michelle get into it last season as well. They don't hold back."
"What I love about them, they're very gracious people, but they're also very unapologetic, and they are who they are," Rajabi added. "They're very gracious people, and they're very genuine people. So they're one of my favorites, for sure."
