Minnie Driver Was Told She Wasn't "Hot Enough" to Be in Good Will Hunting
The Oscar-nominated actress has some strong words for her critic on #WWHL.
One of Minnie Driver's best-known roles was as Will Hunting's (Matt Damon) love interest Skylar in the 1997 film Good Will Hunting. However, we actually almost didn't get to see Minnie in this iconic movie.
When asked about the rudest thing someone in Hollywood has said to the British actress during Wednesday's Watch What Happens Live, Minnie dropped a bombshell. "You know what. The producer of Good Will Hunting did not think I was hot enough to be in that film and did not want me in the film," Minnie revealed. "Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and Gus Van Sant fought very hard for me to play that role, and I am grateful to them to this day."
Minnie wouldn't spill on who made this comment, later saying, "I don't actually remember who it was. It came from the top."
Well, they do say success is the best revenge, and Minnie sure showed that producer since she ended up earning an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in Good Will Hunting. "Yeah but not for being hot," Minnie retorted when Andy Cohen brought up that fact on WWHL. "But that’s alright. It’s totally overrated, anyway."
Minnie said at the time, it hurt to hear something like that, but she quickly got over it. "I mean, yeah, but I was also, I think, together enough to know that hotness is a perception and it’s really a point-of-view," she told Andy. "And this dude was no picnic to look at so it’s like, that's alright. I’ll take that man. I don’t want to be your type."
Watch Minnie dish on a more pleasant project, all the fun times she had while filming Will & Grace, below.
