NeNe Leakes' Hilarious Run on ‘Glee’
The 'RHOA' star brought the laughs on the smash hit
Every Thursday, celebrate #TBT with us as we open the vault to share photos and videos of Bravolebrities before they were famous—or revisit memorable moments from our shows. This week, we’re throwing it back to NeNe Leakes’ comedic role as Roz Washington on Glee.
Real Housewives of Atlanta fans have always known NeNe to crack a joke, even sometimes when it’s an insult thinly veiled as a joke. So when Ryan Murphy hired her to play the role of wisecracking, insult-hurling coach Roz Washington on Glee, she naturally nailed the part.
Glee focuses on the members of William McKinley High School’s glee club. During the first two seasons, the glee club’s main adversary was cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, played brilliantly by Jane Lynch. But, in season three, NeNe’s character Roz came on the scene as McKinley’s new synchronized swimming coach and changed the game for everyone.
Coach Roz even went head-to-head with Sue after principal Figgins enlisted her to co-coach Sue’s pride and joy cheerleading squad, the Cheerios.
However, in this Season 4 clip when Heather Morris’ character, Brittany Pierce, quits the cheerios, Roz learned that being in charge isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be.
In this final video clip, NeNe gives a behind-the-scenes look at her role and thoughts on Glee.
After a brief hiatus from the show, NeNe reprised her role as coach Roz in Glee's sixth and final season this January.
