Nene Leakes Opens Up About Life After Gregg's Passing: "I Have Good Days and Bad Days"
Nene Leakes shares how she's coping with the recent loss of her husband.
Nene Leakes is opening up about how she's doing following husband Gregg Leakes' passing earlier this month after a battle with colon cancer.
Nene shared an update with fans in a series of videos in her Instagram Stories on September 16. She showed off a new hairstyle and said that she's "having to adjust to my new life, my new normal."
Since Gregg's passing on September 1, Nene said that she has tried to keep busy as a way of coping with her grief. "You know, I have a whole group of people that's coming to my house every day doing different stuff with me," she said. "So, trying to keep my mind off of, you know, the events that recently happened. Love you guys."
In the videos, Nene could be seen driving in her car after a visit to the hair salon. "I have good days and bad days, but yeah, they say it's normal. Some days I'm up, some days I'm down," she shared. "Today I felt like going to the salon, so that was good. I normally don't go to the salon. I usually let people come to my house. So today I decided to drive to the salon and actually sit in the salon with other women. And that was good to be around other people. So, yeah, good days and bad days. Pushing through. Pushing through."
Nene similarly shared that she was "pushing thru" in the caption to a selfie taken after she had gotten her hair done.
In her Instagram Stories, Nene also showed her gratitude to her fans "for all of the condolences and all of the sweet comments" they have sent in the wake of Gregg's passing. She also noted that she was on her way to her Linnethia Lounge, where she was hoping to "get back into the groove of things."
The next day, after arriving home from the Linnethia Lounge, Nene opened up more in her Instagram Stories about all of the love she has received during this tough time. "Every day when I get home, I have tons of flowers and gifts at my door and at my lounge," she said. "Thank y'all so much. They're beautiful."
She went on to specifically thank several individuals for their support, including The Real Housewives of Atlanta family, many of whom showed up to pay their respects to Gregg at his celebration of life at the Linnethia Lounge on September 6, along with other familiar faces to Bravo fans and Nene and Gregg's loved ones.
"I've had so many amazing phone calls and amazing text messages that just keep pouring in, pouring in, pouring in," Nene said in her Instagram Stories. "The love has been amazing. I mean, every morning when I wake up, I have a ton of text messages from different people — some of the same people all the time — you know, telling me to be encouraged and all those things."
It's Nene's friends that have especially helped her get through these difficult moments. "I'm strong, and I'm strong in my faith. I have an amazing circle around me. My circle of friends are amazing," she shared. "They have never left me. They have been amazing to me."
With plans to open up more about her grieving process on her YouTube channel, Nene shared one thing she's already doing that she's hoping will help. "I have started a fast. I'm fasting. I just thought it would be something interesting to do and a good thing to do since Gregg's passing, to pray and to fast," she explained. "So I am fasting during the day. So don't talk to me about food until after six o'clock."
Nene said that returning to her Linnethia Lounge has also brought some joy back into her life. "I had a great time. I really had so much fun. Like, I'm so glad to be back," she said. "So all of you guys that were in there, you know I had the microphone, I was singing, I had a good time."
Earlier this month, Nene thanked everyone for attending Gregg's memorial at the Linnethia Lounge. "What a celebration it was! Packed Packed Packed! I am grateful for all of you. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!" she wrote on Instagram, along with a collection of photos from the event. "I LOVE GREGG SO MUCH AND MISS HIM A LOT. I will continue to be strong and celebrate his life."
Nene has kept that promise, posting her favorite memories of Gregg on Instagram in the days since his passing, including the latest on September 12. "The struggle is real. Our circle was always full of love," Nene captioned a clip of herself and Gregg from one of their holiday celebrations. "I love our videos! Create memories while you can."
