Reza Farahan Offers an Update on Where Things Stand with Mercedes "MJ" Javid
The Shahs of Sunset cast member addresses his situation with the new mom ahead of Season 8.
With the new season of Shahs of Sunset set to premiere on February 9, fans will finally get to learn what issues caused the end of the longtime friendship between Reza Farahan and Mercedes "MJ" Javid. And while fans will have to wait for the season to unfold to follow that journey, when Reza stopped by The Daily Dish offices this week, he opened up about what he hopes can happen for the pair in the future.
"I really pray to God that this isn't the end of my relationship with MJ. It would be really tragic for this to be the end of a 30-year friendship," he said at Bravo HQ this week. "So I pray to God that he heals MJ's heart further. He heals Tommy's heart. He heals Adam's heart. And he heals my heart further to get us to a place where there's an opportunity for reconciliation. I loved her for a majority of my life. She's been my friend for 30 years. I'm 46 years old. So I pray to God this isn't the end."
At BravoCon, Reza seemed hopeful for a future with MJ, though she later noted in an interview with HollywoodLife around that time that her friendship with Reza is "non-existent" and that she didn't think it would be possible to repair their relationship. “I just don’t care,” she said in December. “He’s… Think about it. 30 plus years [of friendship]. Nothing. He doesn’t scare me. He doesn’t make me nervous. He doesn’t make me feel anything. Period… Just sorry for him.”
Still, as of this week, Reza is hopeful for some kind of relationship in the future. "I want there to be a reconciliation. And I feel like, maybe, after she sees the season, I see the season, maybe after the reunions where we can rehash and talk about everything that has happened," he said. "I'm definitely open to rebuilding something new from the ground up at a later date."
These days without MJ in his life, he is leaning more on his husband, Adam Neely.
"If there is a bright side to the demise of my friendship with MJ, it is my relationship with Adam and how much stronger he and I are now. MJ was my go-to, she was the first person I spoke to every day, my first text message. She was the person I would confide in. I would discuss my relationship with her, she would give me advice, and because of our fallout, it brought Adam and I a lot closer together. It forced us to communicate a lot more, which over the past few months has really, really changed the dynamic of our relationship — and has made us a lot stronger, a lot more communicative. We’re like best friends now, whereas before, we were a couple, but we weren’t best friends. Because of the loss of MJ, it’s really forced me to give that time and devotion to Adam. It has changed for the positive," he told The Daily Dish.
This week, he confirmed to PEOPLE he has not met her nearly 1-year-old son with Tommy Feight, Shams. And when speaking to The Daily Dish he shared that he has not spoken to MJ's mom, Vida, either. "We're completely out of each other's lives. I don't speak to Vida. I don't speak to Tommy. I don't speak to MJ. And Adam is not speaking to any of them," he said. "Hopefully in the future."
