Ron Fair's Favorite TV Mom? His Wife Stefanie Fair, Obviously

If Stefanie Fair's husband's name sounds familiar, that's because he was already one of the music industry's most well-known executives and producers long before There Goes the Motherhood. Ron Fair has booked time working with artists and running record labels, including Geffen Records and Virgin Records, just to name a few. Over the course of his legendary music career, he's focused much of his time on divas. The Los Angeles native has an ear for talent from big-voiced ladies like Christina Aguilera, the Pussycat Dolls, Mary J. Blige, and, yes, even Stefanie (whom he worked with her during her Wild Orchid days).

The Daily Dish recently caught up with the Motherhood hubby to chat about the show, his career, and that other music industry powerhouse who has appeared on Bravo.

How have you felt ever since There Goes the Motherhood premiered? How are you guys feeling over in the Fair household?

Ron Fair: We’re just very excited. We’re just very excited and glad to be part of it.

You're not new to appearing on TV. You've obviously appeared on TV before [on American Idol and Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll]. How would you say this experience is different for you than some of those other television shows in the past?

Typically I’ve been a talking head from the music point of view, whether it be my experience with a particular artist or a session, or the Grammys, or whatever, but this is us as ourselves and often times the camera actually sees all of our life and then a part of it is shown. So it's fascinating to see how the whole thing shakes out and I’m terribly excited for it. [I] feel a little bit vulnerable of course, but really excited.
Social media is always quick to put their two cents in.

I’ve seen the power list of people ranking the moms, "Who would you rather have be your mom?" and, of course, in my book Stefanie is always the best mom, she’s the best person I’ve ever known, beautiful, and she runs this place with an iron fist and a beautiful soul. So she’s always number one in my power list.

It's been nice to watch your marriage unfold on the show. You guys have known each other a really long time. Talk a little bit about seeing your relationship on television. 

I think with some of the later [episodes] that will air, people will have a different view then they would have gotten off of Episode 1, so that's going to be cool. I’m just really excited. Stefanie is a real beast of a talent and great human being, and for her to have a chance to shine, it's really not about me at all. You know? Unless we did a show, There Went The Fatherhood, or maybe the After Show with me and Bill and Nick sitting at a bar complaining about our wives, we could do that show. We’re just really excited to be a part of the whole Bravo thing. Stefanie is a really big Andy Cohen fan, and [there have] been so many emails of support from all of our friends. This has been a process for us.

And obviously you are a big Real Housewives fan.

Well, it’s on in our house all of the time. Bravo is our wallpaper so, I kind of know everything.

You are not the first Bravo husband to work in the industry. David Foster was married to Housewife Yolanda Hadid and appeared on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. 

He’s a friend, a great friend, and one of my heroes actually as a music guy. It’s not like we talk all of the time, we haven't compared notes. We have had dinner with David and [then-wife] Yolanda in the past. And he’s a great inspiration to me, if nothing else because he’s such a sensational musician.

What's something Motherhood fans would like to know about your very illustroius career?

Well all my big successes have been with female singers. Christina [Aguilera], Fergie, Mary J. Blige, Keyshia Cole. I’ve just done the new Fantasia record, which I think is spectacular album. We’re really excited; it's coming out June 10th. And so when I’m in my record producer mode, I can somehow — and I think maybe to my older sister’s wonderful influence on me as a kid — stand behind a female singer and sort of see the world through their eyes. It’s something that I don’t question, I know how to do it and [I know] what I’m doing with a gal singing. I don’t know how I know, but I know that I know, so my compass is really strong and I follow it.

Have you always been drawn to female artists then? Even growing up listening to music?

I am an avid Judy Garland fanatic. I love Barbra Streisand’s records more than her movies and just the whole, the whole proposition of divas is something that I’ve [worked] in and really enjoyed. I love a crazy diva... We have an 8-year-old daughter who’s a little bit of diva and Stefanie and I often times discuss the behavior and her temperament, and [how] Daddy encourages it and Mommy discourages it. My grandmother was a great diva of the Yiddish theatre. She acted in a foreign language a long ago time, in the early '20s and did radio and theatre and movies and was really a tremendous force of nature in the theatre and in culture, so it’s in our blood.
