Scheana Shay Responds: Why Kate Chastain Says the VPR Star Wouldn't Be a Good Traitor

Casting is underway for The Traitors Season 3 – could we be getting a Vanderpump Rules star in the mix?

A split of Kate Chastain and Scheana Shay.

This story contains spoilers for The Traitors Season 2, Episode 8, "Knives at Dawn."

Season 2 of Peacock's The Traitors has been filled to the brim with Bravolebs, including four Housewives, one Shahs of Sunset alum, and, of course, Below Deck's Kate Chastain, who's now competed on both seasons of the hit reality series. As the season slowly approaches its shocking finale, eyes are already turning to the recently announced Season 3 — and, specifically, who the creators might bring onboard.

How to Watch

Watch Vanderpump Rules on Bravo Tuesdays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

When ET assumedly asked Kate who would be fun to watch compete on The Traitors, she said that while Scheana Shay of Vanderpump Rules fame would be entertaining, Kate doubts she has the chops to pull off the Traitors robes.

"I think Scheana is just really sweet and really earnest, and I love those qualities about her, but I don't think she'd make a great traitor," Kate said.

Does Scheana Shay want to be on The Traitors?

Later that same day, Scheana told ET that she doesn't disagree with Kate. In fact, she said, Kate's right on the money.

"I completely agree, watching them – like I couldn't do that," Scheana said, laughing. "I am, not, you know, Parvati [Shallow] or someone who ... was on Survivor or Big Brother – those manipulating, scheming, lying to people sort of shows. I do think it would be fun but because I just have such a heart [it would be hard]."

But maybe in Season 3, which is undergoing casting now, The Traitors is looking to throw competitors off by casting someone who no one would expect as being a Traitor. Season 2 has seen Dan Gheesling (Big Brother), Parvati Shallow (Survivor), Phaedra Parks (Married to Medicine), and now Kate Chastain herself step into the Traitors tower — choices that audiences weren't exactly shocked by.

"Maybe they would pick me as a Traitor," Scheana said. "Because they would think since I’ve already put this out there, no one would suspect me because I am so nice."

But, maybe like The Bachelor's Peter Weber, she'd be the most faithful of the Faithful. "I feel like I would be queen of the Faithfuls but that's also so obvious," she said. "I could be a Traitor and pretend I'm being a Faithful — I don't know, I am very into that show, though."

Scheana also admitted that she's concerned she'd be too trusting. "[I would be] so loyal to my friends, even if they were Traitors in disguise," she said.

She wouldn't be the first Bravoleb to fall into that mindset. Throughout Season 2, the Housewives competing in the show — Larsa Pippen (The Real Housewives of Miami), Phaedra Parks (The Real Housewives of AtlantaMarried to Medicine), Shereé Whitfield (The Real Housewives of Atlanta), and Tamra Judge (The Real Housewives of Orange County) — have been accused on and off of being too "tribal" (as host Alan Cumming recently described them on an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen).

Future competitors could certainly learn a thing or two from watching how things have played out for the Bravolebs on this season. So would Schaena be down to step foot in that gloriously menacing castle in the Scottish highlands?

"I'm not saying no. Make me an offer, I’ll see if the timing works with my schedule," Scheana added.

New episodes of The Traitors Season 2 premiere every Thursday. Episodes are available to stream on Peacock alongside The Traitors: Postmortem after show.
