Scheana Shay Did "Something Huge" for Herself and Her Daughter
The Vanderpump Rules cast member shared a vulnerable post about her anxieties surrounding motherhood — and how she overcame one of them.
Scheana Shay is head over heels in love with her little girl, Summer Moon. And by all accounts, the Vanderpump Rules cast member is a loving, devoted, and fun mom. (Fancy a pajama party where you act like a dinosaur? Scheana's got you covered.) However, Scheana's road to motherhood has always not been easy.
Shortly after the podcaster gave birth to Summer in 2021, Scheana shared an update about her harrowing experience with labor and delivery. "Almost 24 hours after being induced, my blood pressure was extremely elevated," she wrote in a candid Instagram post. "I was diagnosed with preeclampsia, which has now turned into HELLP syndrome. My doctor said I was lucky, and we caught this just in time to treat as it’s very unusual to be caught so late, in postpartum. Until this morning I was on a magnesium drip that made me extremely lethargic and flu-like, shivering uncontrollably to the point where I felt like I was seizing. Having not caught this condition in time, that would have been likely."
In spite of the scare, Sheana wrote: "We are definitely feeling all the feels and just so excited to be Summer’s parents!!!"
Since Summer's birth announcement, Scheana has been open about the joys and anxieties of motherhood. And in a recent Instagram post, the Los Angeles mama revealed a fear she'd harbored, and how she overcame it.
Scheana Shay opens up about her "fears" surrounding motherhood
In her September 27 Instagram post, Scheana dropped a carousel of photos featuring her and Summer Moon at a theme park. Both mama and daughter looked like they were having a blast, but there was more to the story than a simple day at the park.
In her caption, Scheana shared: "Last week I did something huge for myself and my daughter. Anyone who knows me knows that I’ve had so many fears around becoming a mom and doing things on my own with Summer. It took me forever to be comfortable driving alone with her, taking her to music class alone, etc. My therapist asked me what my scale of 1-10 exposure therapy would be around this and I put taking her to an amusement park by myself at 10 but then changed it to an 8-9 and flying alone with her as a 10. Well, we did it!! Mother-daughter day with zero help. We did rides, met princesses, and had a blast!! After about 4 1/2 hours [my sister Cortney Erin] met us and the party continued."
Scheana added: "[Summer] let’s reach for the stars and fly somewhere next!"
