Here's an obvious statement: May-December romances are hardly new in Hollywood. And so the news that David Foster and Katharine McPhee are engaged, years after they first met on American Idol back in 2006, is hardly shocking — even with the 34-year age difference. Yes, they do have a bit of an interesting past on a couple of levels ... but now the ex-husband of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Yolanda Hadid and the singer/actress are ready to start their next chapter.
This marks the second marriage for Katharine, 34, and the fifth for the music producer, 68. Now, you might be wondering when it comes to the ages of his five grown daughters, where does Katharine fall in the age pecking order?
Well, David's youngest, Jordan, is 32. Then there's Erin, 36, and Sara, 37. Next up is Amy, 45, and finally, Allison, 48. So Katharine is in second place. It should be noted he's also got seven grandkids, which should make the future Nanny McPhee pretty excited to step up for grandma duty.
Now, the decision for David to marry Katharine is interesting as it breaks a major rule he once made for himself, as Erin previously noted: “Our friends think he’s hot and when he became single for the first time in our lives when I was about 23, he was like, ‘So obviously I’m going to start dating. My rule is that I’m not going to date anyone younger than my oldest daughter.’"
However, his policy did change at some point, she added post-Yolanda: "Then after a year he was like, ‘OK, there’s a new rule. I’m not going to date anyone younger than my youngest daughter."
Sometimes love makes you do crazy things, we guess. Plus, she still two years older than Jordan — so he truly is a man of his word.
