What Was Addressed About Katie and Tom’s Split in the Vanderpump Rules Season 10 Premiere

The exes opened up about several of the specific reasons they decided to get divorced on the February 8 premiere.

Back in March 2022, Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz shocked the public when they announced they were getting divorced.

How to Watch

Watch Vanderpump Rules on Bravo Tuesdays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

The Vanderpump Rules cast members shared separate statements on their respective Instagram pages about the conclusion of their marriage, their remaining “deep admiration” for each other, and their desire to remain friends.

As the Season 10 trailer revealed, their amicable divorce could turn ugly since Tom did kiss someone within the friend group (aka Raquel Leviss).

While viewers are eager to find out what will happen between the ex spouses on the new season, there is plenty to unpack from the February 8 premiere. Find out everything Tom and Katie revealed about their final months of marriage and their split by scrolling below.

Katie asked Tom for a divorce after a “lot of issues” in the winter of 2022

The Season 10 premiere opened with the former SUR waitress and the Tom Tom part owner separately talking about the divorce. As Tom previously confirmed on Winter House Season 2, Katie was the one who made the move to end the marriage.

“After 12 years together and five years of marriage, I went to Tom last winter and asked him for a divorce,” Katie said in a confessional in the first few seconds of the Season 10 premiere.

Though Tom knew he hadn’t been being an ideal husband, he was still surprised by Katie’s request.

“I felt like my whole world, everything I know, just sort of dissipated in that moment, you know?” Tom explained in his own interview.

“We’ve had a lot of issues,” Katie added. “I’ve never been a priority to him.”

Tom acknowledged that he “didn’t know how to make [Katie] happy”

After Katie asked Tom for a divorce, she told him some of the reasons why she had come to that decision.

“She laid it all out, and it made perfect sense. I can’t probably give you the specifics, because I was so upset, I wasn’t really listening,” Tom said. “But also, I don’t want to ask her again, because one of the reasons she broke up with me was because I’m not a good listener.”

“Long story short, I just didn’t know how to make her happy,” he concluded.

The exes agreed not to date anyone in the Vanderpump Rules friend group

Tom and Katie may have decided to end their romantic relationship, but they still wanted to remain in each other’s lives after their divorce. When Season 10 began, the exes were still spending time together one-on-one and with the rest of the cast.

“I really value my friendship with Tom, and I want to remain friends,” Katie explained in an interview. “But there’s just one rule: Don’t hook up with anyone in the friend group.”

Though Tom and Katie were optimistic that they could maintain a friendship, a few of their castmates were not as confident.

“If one of my exes even tried to call me Bubba, I would call the cops,” Ariana Madix joked.

If Tom’s kiss with Raquel in the teaser trailer is any indication of what fans can expect to see from the rest of the season, it looks like his friendship with Katie could be short-lived.
