Jax Taylor Has an Issue with Kristen Doute’s Boyfriend: Why He “Doesn’t Like That F--king Guy”
Brittany Cartwright said the tension was so heated that she was "breaking out in hives."
Jax Taylor has some major beef with Bravo newcomer Luke Broderick, and it’s “so obvious,” according to others in The Valley.
In the series premiere, which aired Tuesday, March 19, 2024, Kristen Doute introduced fans to Luke, the Colorado-based man she began dating just two weeks after her “shitty breakup” with ex Alex Menache. Jax, whose 16-year-long friendship with Kristen dates back even before their time together on Vanderpump Rules, hasn’t tried to hide his feelings that Kristen and Luke are moving too fast in their relationship, especially because they’re “actively trying” to have a baby.
What The Valley’s men think of Luke
Luke joined Jax, Jesse Lally, Danny Booko, and Jason Caperna for some beer and indoor virtual golf. Jason said he met Luke about a year earlier and that they’ll occasionally chat at parties, referring to Luke as “a pretty introverted guy.”
Jesse, meanwhile, said he heard Luke was just Kristen’s “sidepiece” or “a rebound.”

“I think Luke’s over his head with the boys,” Jesse admitted.
Nice guy Luke, prompted by the men’s questions, explained that “99 percent” of his life was still back in Colorado. He only planned to stay with Kristen in her new L.A. apartment for the summer, pending how their relationship transpired over the next two to three months.
Jax wondered if Kristen and Luke would maintain a long-distance relationship.
“Jax has his sh-t written all over his face, and it’s so obvious to see,” said Jesse. “He doesn’t like that f-cking guy at all.”
Jax's Issues with Kristen and Luke
Perhaps to the bemusement of others, Jax questioned Luke about his and Kristen’s decision to have a baby. Luke explained that, at 40, Kristen was the “oldest girl in the group,” therefore, the chances of conceiving a child were becoming smaller.
The men joked that Danny — who shares three children under the age of 2 with Nia Booko — should sell Luke one of his. But then Jax wondered if Kristen wanted to conceive “for the right reasons.”
“We just want to make sure that she’s OK having a kid out of wedlock,” Jax said. “There’s things that happen.”
Jax — who shares a 2-year-old son, Cruz, with Brittany Cartwright — cited his curiosity to knowing some of Brittany’s friends having children before marriage. He pointed out that it was challenging to raise kids while trying to have a full-time job and juggling insurance, school, bills, food, and other day-to-day expenses.
“We both have the same mindset: that we’re giving the best life we can no matter what, all problems aside,” Luke defended. “That’s more important to me than a ring and a wedding.”
Jesse (who shares a daughter with Michelle Lally), Jason (who is expecting his first child with his wife, Janet Caperna), and Danny chimed in, using their own experiences to impart some of their fatherly advice to Luke.
“We could all talk about how great of a parent we’re gonna be until you have a kid, and I’ll tell ya from my experience, it completely changes the entire relationship,” Jesse offered.
Meanwhile, Brittany, Michelle, and Nia gathered for a playdate at the latter’s home when the topic of Luke and Kristen came to the forefront of conversation.
“Sometimes I feel like I’m in the middle of all the crap between the Jax-Kristen-Luke situation,” Brittany admitted. “Jax really was acting like Luke didn’t even exist if he was around. Like, [he] was very rude whenever we went to Mexico for [Scheana Shay’s] wedding, they were not getting along whatsoever.”
Brittany told the women that she became so stressed by the tension in Mexico that she began “breaking out in hives.”
Despite Kristen being one of Brittany’s “closest friends,” even Brittany wondered if things between Kristen and Luke went from zero to a hundred.
“She had just broken up with her ex-boyfriend, and she was so emotional that it was kind of like, “Oh whoa, you’re already in a new relationship,’” Brittany said, adding that moving so fast was “very Kristen to do.”
