Ashton Pienaar Responds to Captain Lee Rosbach Saying He Won't Work with Him Again

The Below Deck bosun has a surprising response to his boss' criticism.

By Laura Rosenfeld

As Captain Lee Rosbach reflected on Ashton Pienaar's behavior this season of Below Deck during his appearance on The Jenny McCarthy Show earlier this month, he said that he "wouldn't" give the bosun another chance to be a part of his crew.

"I wouldn't give him another chance," Captain Lee explained. "I don't get that feeling of sincerity for him or any remorse at all. It's just not there, and I'm generally a pretty good judge of that."

Captain Lee continued to be candid about his thoughts on Ashton during the Below Deck 100th episode celebration on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on January 6, sharing that he "was terribly disappointed" in the bosun's behavior this season.

Ashton addressed Captain Lee's criticism and his feelings about the possibility of working together in the future during his appearance on WWHL on January 20 (clip below). "Look, Andy, I'm extremely disappointed in myself with the behavior that I've seen throughout, especially in that scene [in the van]. So I can't really stand up to it at all," Ashton shared. "If that's the way he feels, I completely understand it."

Ashton Pienaar Responds to Captain Lee’s Declaration

The question of whether or not Ashton thinks he will be able to repair his relationship with Captain Lee in the future was a difficult one for the bosun to answer during an interview with The Daily Dish earlier this month.

"I’m always a pretty open person," he said. "I can put this thing to the side, and I can kind of move forward in an adult and professional manner. So, from my side I’d probably be able to do that. I just see that he’s very [one-track-minded] with his opinion at the moment."

Ashton went on to say that he has done a lot of work on himself since this season. "I've had to make big changes in my life after self-reflecting from seeing that behavior. All I can do is better myself and make the necessary changes in my own life," he said. "I've stopped drinking. I'm getting to the root cause of why this behavior came out the way that it did."

The Below Deck bosun also said that he's even "considering" going to therapy. "I am a true believer that therapy starts with yourself. You need to first understand certain things about yourself before speaking to somebody else kind of thing," Ashton said. "So I'm taking the necessary steps that I need to to be better."
