Xscape Will Perform Alongside Janet Jackson and Miguel at an Upcoming Gig
The group will reunite in New Orleans this July for a star-studded show.
Kandi Burruss may be performing on Broadway right now. But in July, the Xscape singer will pack her bags and head to New Orleans, where she and the rest of the Xscape: Still Kickin' It group will perform at the 2018 ESSENCE Festival.
The four-day event, which will be held at the Superdome, features some 40 acts. Along with Xscape, performers will include Janet Jackson, Miguel, Mary J. Blige (who could possibly be fresh off an Oscar win), and Jill Scott with Snoop Dogg. It's tough to imagine a more enticing lineup than that, but even more acts will be announced in the weeks to come.
This isn't the first time that Kandi, Tameka "Tiny" Harris, LaTocha Scott, and Tamika Scott have appeared at the star-studded fest. In 2017, the ladies of Xscape performed there alongside Diana Ross, Solange Knowles, and John Legend. At the time, Kandi told ESSENCE that she was honored to have the gig.
"The ESSENCE Festival is iconic. To me, I felt like it was the perfect place for us to reach people from all over," The Real Housewives of Atlanta pal said. "It's a big deal to be at the ESSENCE Festival."
This year, the event will take on a tone that resonates with the Time's Up movement, which has been prevalent in the entertainment industry.
"In 2018 women are at the forefront of a seismic shift reverberating across the cultural landscape,” ESSENCE communications president Michelle Ebanks said in a press release. “This movement comes to life for our community at the ESSENCE Festival.”
