This is a story about the time Sherri Shepherd had a very, very good checkup with her doctor. As a quick refresher, the former View cohost has lately made some lifestyle changes that included ditching her 66 daily sugar packets (true story) and sticking to the Keto diet. In a recent Instagram video, the TV personality announced, "I just came back from the doctor's office to get my A1C [blood test] because I'm a Type 2 diabetic, and in 2016 and 17 and 18 my numbers were 6.6. The doctor prescribed Metformin for me. I just came out of the office and my numbers are 5.4."
Shepherd continued, "The doctor said to me: You're not even pre-diabetic! What did you do?"
Chalk it up to that sugar-free life. Tearfully, Shepherd recalled the incident that had her ditch the sweet stuff for good last year. "I know it's because I've been off sugar since March 2018, and it's because [my son] Jeffrey said to me, 'Mommy, if you die, who's going to be my bodyguard?'"
And even though, as she cheekily said, she didn't have her glam, her lashes, or her wig on, she added, "I just had to let you know: 5.4 from 6.6. You can do this! You can!"
In her caption, Shepherd added a few more inspirational words. "I feel so good right now I could scream. Just want to encourage you that this can be done. You have people who love you and need you to be here. Live for you! Live for them!"
