Here's Why New Royal Meghan Markle Had to Cut Out One of Her Favorite Foods

Queen Elizabeth hates this food, so royals are expected to leave it alone.

Queen Elizabeth's royal chef at Buckingham Palace has been telling publications for years that she hates garlic and expects all the royals to avoid it, at least in her presence. He's now doubling down on the claim just after Meghan Markle has joined the family.

“We can never serve anything with garlic or too much onions,” Darren McGrady told Express. “The Queen would never have garlic on the menu.”

That wouldn't be too much of an issue if Meghan didn't just simply love garlic to pieces; Express noted that she told Today that one of her favorites is the garlic-and-vinegar-forward Filipino chicken adobo.

Royals also must avoid eating shellfish when they're traveling — and follow a whole litany of other strange-seeming rules.

But hey... at least cake is permissible.
