Padma Lakshmi Reveals “It Took Me 10 Seasons” of Top Chef to Figure out This Kitchen Trick
When appearing on the Sooo Many White Guys podcast, the Bravo's Top Chef judge revealed a hack she wishes she'd figured out just a little bit sooner.
If you're a huge Padma Lakshmi fan, we have good news: She was recently a guest on the Sooo Many White Guys podcast, and she revealed so many interesting anecdotes. While chatting with host Phoebe Robinson, the Bravo's Top Chef judge gave her best career advice and talked about having one of the best jobs in the world — even if there are some challenges she has to grapple with. Think: Flavor overload.
When Robinson asked Padma how she's able to taste all the chef creations without overwhelming her palate, Padma admitted, "It is hard. You do have palate fatigue. But I will say that I'm lucky: I have an unlimited amount of appetite. And I'm uniquely qualified to do this very arduous job of eating my face off."
Dream job indeed! But: "It does get hard," Padma continued. "Like, I don't feel great at the end of the night. Especially for Restaurant Wars or especially when it's the first half of the season. And that's why I eat very cleanly when I'm not working. But you wait, you learn to take small bites, you learn that the hard way. No one's going to feel sorry for me; it's a very high-class problem to have! But you just pace yourself. You gotta remember, I do the Quickfires too... It takes me just as long to detox after Top Chef as it does to film Top Chef."
Padma explained that when filming wraps, her digestive tract needs a little TLC. "And I'm not getting enough sleep, and my feet hurt," she shared. But for the last ailment, the foodie does have a hack.
"It took me 10 seasons to get a rubber mat under my feet. I was, like, on heels, on that concrete kitchen," she marveled. "Note to self: First thing to ask for is, don't stand on concrete on high heels for a long time."
