Tom Schwartz Opened up About All Things Katie Maloney, and She Had Feelings About It

After saying that his ex-wife was a "monster" early on in their relationship, Katie fired back.

When Vanderpump RulesTom Schwartz and Katie Maloney first announced their separation in March 2022, the exes vowed to remain friends (and to successfully co-parent their two pups together).

Then, on the Season 10 premiere, Katie shared some insight into why she wanted to divorce Schwartz in the first place. "We’ve had a lot of issues,” Katie said in an interview on the February 8 episode. “I’ve never been a priority to him."

In addition, Katie felt like her now-ex never took her side when she would get into disagreements with other cast members. On the April 5 episode, Katie said that the "only thing" she could come up with was that Schwartz "just didn't like" her during their marriage.

Schwartz defended his role in the relationship by saying that he felt like he had been a "great f-----g husband" to Katie during their six-year union. Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on the same night that the episode aired, Schwartz then doubled down on his comment about being a good spouse.

"I'm telling you, we had some of the most magical times, the most romantic times," Schwartz said. "For the most part, we were happy, and we had a good marriage."

During the After Show, he also shared why he rarely took Katie's side.

"She was always getting in tiffs, and she was like, 'You're either with me or against me.' She demanded unconditional loyalty early on," Schwartz said. She's put a lot of work into herself, and she's a lot better now... But, in the beginning, she was kind of a monster."

Schwartz later tried to take back the "monster" comment by calling his ex-wife an "angel," but he added that he "didn't like getting dragged into all that" when it came to her issues with her friends.

"I guess I became a little numb when she actually did need me," he concluded. "It's like The Boy Who Cried Wolf."

After Schwartz referred to Katie as a "monster," she took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the matter.

"I was called a monster too many times to count…" Katie tweeted. "[T]onight’s [WWHL] didn’t phase me. Sadly."

Though Schwartz did have some choice words for his former spouse, he told host Andy Cohen that he felt like the exes were in a "good" place in their friendship (despite Schwartz's makeout with Raquel Leviss, which broke Katie's rule of not hooking up with anyone in the friend group).

"I know deep down [that] she likes me," he said. "Not like we would want to get back together — that's done... I want to re-establish our friendship. I miss hanging out with her."
