You might think that most married couples decide to participate in a vow renewal ceremony either because they've been married for a long time or want to celebrate their love after just coming out of a rough patch. Neither of those applied to The Real Housewives of Orange County's Heather and Terry Dubrow when they renewed their vows 15 years ago.
Terry surprised Heather with a private vow renewal ceremony at their temple with just the rabbi and cantor after two years of marriage. "You can imagine what our wedding was like. It was at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Heather sang a beautiful song [Bonnie Raitt's cover of "Feels Like Home"]. There were a gazillion people there. I felt like I was onstage, and I'm not used to being onstage or on-camera," Terry told Personal Space earlier this month (clip above). "So I'm not sure I experienced the actual one-on-one moment of our vows, so I wanted to do it again, just Heather and I without anyone else there."
Heather and Terry wed on June 5, 1999.
The couple's desire to start a family was also a major factor for Terry in wanting to renew his vows with Heather. Before the vow renewal ceremony took place, Heather remembered that Terry pulled her aside and said, "'Listen, when we got married, I knew I loved you, I knew I wanted to be married to you, but my two parents were married five times between them. I didn't really understand marriage, I didn't understand any of this, and I love you more and more every day. I want to start a family with you. And I want to marry you again but just the two of us.'"
Though Heather and Terry's fellow RHOC couple Shannon and David Beador renewed their vows in a touching ceremony earlier this season, Terry said he's not looking to do another celebration on a similarly grand scale. "So we've done it. Will we do it again? No. Unless she gets so mad at me for something stupid I do that I have to do that," Terry joked. "And I still wouldn't do it on television, I don't think."
Heather agreed that she wouldn't want to do a redo of their vow renewal. "What I think was really sweet about it is it was that private moment that was [a] very romantic, sweet thing to do. We cried a lot. It was just really nice."
